My Go To Chinese and Sushi Spot! – I have been going to this restaurant for years and have never been disappointed! The food is so tasty and the service is always friendly and accommodating. It is a family business and the owner always is sure to greet me as I walk in each time!
The menu has a great selection of Chinese entrees, the usual delicious house soups and salads, and a full sushi bar. My personal favorite dishes are the Cashew Chicken, the house salad with a really unique ginger dressing and then the Crunch Munch sushi roll.
I've done take out a couple of times when I was a busy student at UT and the food never took more than 15 minutes to prepare which was super convenient.
Lastly, this place does private parties and I have used this venue for a small party complete with sake bombing and then also a larger party that had a set menu I worked with them to set up. Both times we were sat in the private dining room and had great service! I highly recommend calling them to set up a private party if you are looking for an affordable place that will give you great attention!
Give it a try, I highly recommend it!
Inedible – We've been loyal customers for years. After our last experience, we will probably never eat at Snow Pea again. This saddens me because it is the most convenient & affordable Chinese near our house.
We ordered Kung Pao chicken & Mu Shu chicken - almost completely no flavor in either dish. Mu Shu did taste somewhat like soy sauce, which is not how it should taste & it included broccoli. We've had these dishes at Snow Pea many times.
Maybe they've lost their chef AND their recipes?
Food was SO BAD we threw it out AND called the restaurant to complain.
Disappointed – The foods are as ok as other Chinese Restaurant. However, The price was too high compare to their quality.
E.g. 20$ for a place of vegetables with meat??
They even charge u $1 for a small scoop of extra rice, which is not happen in another restaurant??????????????
I would definitely NEVER come back again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Great Chinese Delivery – Being new to Austin, I took the plunge and ordered my first Chinese food delivery from Snow Pea. I was pleasantly surprised! I had the chicken lo mein and egg drop soup. The lo mein was great with fresh snow peas, mushrooms, scallions, and tender bits of chicken. Delivery was FAST especially for a Friday night. I will definitely try them again!
Just ordinary – Tea is served with a bag, not brewed in a pot, and the soup is eaten with a metal soup spoon. Not the makings of an authentic chinese restaurant. The Hot & Sour soup was not to my liking, but the sggdrop was pretty good. Just didn't care for the sauce (Shrimp in garlic) and the eggroll was predominantly a fried roll.
Service and atmosphere were nice. That's about it.
Tasty chinese food without the MSG – This is our favorite chinese restaurant. The owner and staff are very friendly, and the food, service, and value are good. One of the great things about Snow Pea is they never use MSG, which my wife is allergic to. We've also found that too many oriental restaurants use MSG as a crutch, and those that don't tend to be better. We think that's true for Snow Pea - most of the food is very tasty without the MSG. The "snow pea favorites" are especially good. Some of our favorites are snow pea special garlic, cilantro scallops, basil shrimp, and hohng-yu vegetables. The old stand-bys like moo-sho pork, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, dumplings, and hot-and-sour soup are good too. The only thing we've ordered that we didn't like is snow pea special tofu. The quality is of their sushi is not quite up to a par with a place like Uchi, but then it's not priced like Uchi either. For a change of pace, we often order up a big platter of sushi and are very happy with it.
Not great for Chinese food – We have been here once and the staff was very friendly and service was fast. This is definitely not the place to go for authentic Chinese food. If you like Asian flavors its worth a try, but don't expect to see any Chinese families here.
Not what it used to be – Quality of service and meals here has declined over the past year. I work close by and would frequently go to Snow Pea for lunch, but lately the staff has been less than courteous, and I think they started using cheaper ingredients. Alot of the menu items, especially the soups, have been pretty bland lately.
Good Sushi, Great Staff – The sushi at Snow Pea is good! The staff is great, very informative about their selections. It's a little hidden off 38th but it's worth the trip!!
Much better sushi places in town – For one, their sushi happy hour is NOT on rolls. Just nigiri/sashimi. For two, i've eaten at 7 other sushi places in town, and this was my LEAST favorite. The flavors were blah and bland. The spider roll (hard to screw up) was just boring. Nothing tasted extra fresh as a result. There are so many other great sushi places in Austin. Don't waste your time. Try Maru if you want good quality with low prices. It's right up the street.
