In Short
Looking everything like an elementary school classroom, with colorful charactures and simplified drawings on the walls, this stripmall Mexican restaurant has a taqueria-style menu, complete with fish tacos, fresh enchiladas, soft-shell tacos and such traditional Mexican drinks as Jarritos pineapple and orange soda. A small patio overlooks the parking lot, but it's still a friendly place to sit under a sun umbrella and enjoy your meal.

I went to ZuZu expecting much more than what I received. The service was nothing more than mediocre and the food was some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had. I ordered the chicken and cheese enchiladas, corn and a salad... all of which were bland and it seemed that money was saved from the use of poor quality of ingredients. The cheese on the enchiladas tasted like the kind of cheese poured on nachos at a football game contrary to my being told that the tortillas were home made... they tasted like they were purchased at Wal-Mart. I would recommend Taco Cabana over ZuZu... better food for a fraction of the price.

ZuZu's does have fresh food and it's excellent when well done but the quality varies a lot. Customer service is extremely poor. We recently had take-out at ZuZu's Bee Caves and were given BURNED queso. When we brought up the problem by phone, we were treated rudely, disrespectfully and we were told the food was "fine" when my entire family agreed it tasted and looked burned. The queso tasted like charcoal and had small black chunks in it. The ZuZu staff member told us the black chunks were onion or pepper - who are we kidding? They have a policy that they will AT MOST refund your money for bad food IF you return it to the restaurant. It's pretty awful to have your money taken for lousy food and then have a nightmare experience returning it to them. Take-out food is not recommended.

I have been wanting to try Zuzu for some time. So today, I ordered a chicken burrito with corn salsa and Mexican rice. Let me just say: When did green peas become an ingredient for a burrito? It took away from the taste of the beans and chicken. And the chicken was dry. The 'corn salsa' tasted like canned mixed vegetables with no seasoning (doesn't 'salsa' mean something more?). The rice was flat, without flavor. I took a container of what I thought must be pico de gallo. I think not. It tasted like canned tomatoes with no other flavor. This was a big disappointment. This is not 'handmade Mexican food' unless you like opening cans.
