In Short – Hundreds can fit on this restaurant's many decks, which descend down the side of a 450-foot cliff above Lake Travis. Fervent sightseers can use the mounted telescopes to get close-ups of Mansfield Dam and Hippie Hollow. The Oasis has a varied mnu, with Tex-Mex favorites like grilled chicken enchiladas and crawfish enchiladas, burgers, grilled shrimp and steaks. Downstairs, the Longhorn Bar and the Starlight Terrace offer drinks and appetizers and the Starlight serves occasional buffets. A lightning strike in 2005 started a fire that burned down most of the restaurant, but it…

Editor's Tips

Where to Sit:
Some 40-plus decks are open weekends, seating 2,000. Arrive two hours pre-sunset due to crowds.
Look Good:
Starlight Terrace offers live music and dancing on weekend nights, April to October.
Parking:
Spots out front are hard to find during peak times, but a larger lot across Comanche Trail offers hundreds more spaces.
Fun Fact:
Owner Beau Theriot owns 500 acres of the surrounding hilltop and also has a beautiful home just across the lake, viewable from most dining decks.

Worst Food Ever--Seriously

by teknonerdz at Citysearch

Absolutely the worst fajitas I have EVER had. No joking. The WORST EVER. I just thought the reviews were full of people who were exaggerating. We went, sat down at an amazing view, and then had some great drinks. At this point I was like, "Yep the other people were full of it, this place rocks" And then the food came...wow. Just WOW. I have never in my life had fajitas that bad. I had a friend who got drunk one time and boiled the fajita meat instead of grilling it--these were worse. DO NOT GO HERE TO EAT. However, go eat somwhere else and think of this place as a really cool bar and you will be in good shape. Seriously, don't ruin your good time by eating food at this place.

  • Pros: View / Drinks
  • Cons: Everything else

Ok drinks, but not my favorite place on lake travis. Seriously dirt parking lots, and 45 minutes for food? i try not to bad mouth places but they need some help.

  • Pros: Cool decks
  • Cons: parking mess, no boat access, average service on a good day

Improved Service and Improved Food

by austinlife33 at Citysearch

I have been an Austinite for nearly 25 years and recently relocted to north Austin. A few weeks ago, in need of a margarita and a relaxing evening I was advised by a friend to revisit the Oasis(since I hadn't in about 6 years). I was amazed at the job they did rebuilding after the fire and the size of the new building. Not only that, but the girls at the front desk were beaming and eager to tell me all about the new bulding and the owner's future plans for a shopping center on the property. My waitress(I believe her name was Clair) was prompt and friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. Her suggestions turned out to be big crowd pleasers. The food was much better than I remembered! The queso, mango tilapia, and beef fajitas were a big hit. Overall, I was greatly impressed with the service, the food, and of course the view...from start to finish!

  • Pros: Exellent Queso, Sweet Staff, and Amazing View!
  • Cons: Not much spice to the "spicy" dishes

YUCK!

by jannieb at Citysearch

We drove out for brunch today. They list a Hatch Chiles omelet> I have never seen a smaller ombet. Could it have been a 1 egg omlet? Also, where were the hatch chiles? It was easy to try and find them with such a small omelet. We found 1 very small, piit would of diced hatch, we think. That one little peice could have fit on top of a pencil eraser.

I have what they called huge breakfast tacos. When finally came out, it was 2 small flour tortillas, small spoonful of egg and some unmelted shreded cheese. WHAT A JOKE! I hve never had anything so tasteless.

I know this is a tourist trap, but you would think they could at least have mediocre food so locals would come out ocassionally. I will never recommend this restaurant, but will definitely people to stay away!

  • Pros: see how low the lake is
  • Cons: terrible food - it doesnt deserve one star, needs -*
