This place is incredible when walking in. The view is AMAZING. Overlooks lake Travis from atop a 400-something foot cliff.
BUT the food is less than great. I would only recommend this place if you want to have drinks or maybe an appetizer; chips and dip. The fajitas were probably the worst I've ever had. But i would still go back just for the view. It's quite sad how their effort ends at advertising and atmosphere:(
Perfect Wedding Venue. Two months before our scheduled cruise ship wedding we had to change our plans because of Hurricane Ike. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon The Oasis and even more fortunate to discover they had one room left on my date! Jill Moore and Scott Tell were amazing. Jill was very patient with the many changes I made to everything. She was helpful in offering suggestions from the best place for the sweetheart table to tips on how to save money on linens. And then there is Scott - our actual day-of coordinator. Scott made my vision come to life. Everything was perfect. He was always right there when we needed him. He even escorted us to a perfect out of the way spot to take pictures with the full moon in the background. The entire staff was friendly and helpful and always there when needed but never obtrusive. And the food was incredible as well - we had many guests that had expressed dismay in the reputation of the cuisine but I can assure you the food was delicious! Everyone was impressed that we had such an elegant and expensive seeming wedding - but everything was very affordable (for a wedding). The only regret we had? That we hadn't planned a longer reception! Everyone was having so much fun it was hard to leave when the time came.
Not for me - Never again.
Outrageous prices for mediocre food. A baked potato is not available for a $25 steak. You want fries with that?
My party of 12 (or any other size) won't be eating there again.
Ruined my birthday party!. The view is beautiful but that is where it ends. A group of friends met me there to celebrate my birthday. The waiter was completely rude and inattentive. Plus he forgot to submit my order so I didn't get dinner. When we asked him to remedy the situation he acted like he was doing us a favor by even waiting on us badly. We had 7 people in our party and it seemed like he didn't care because gratuity was included already. The manager didn't do anything when we complained. My friends shared what they ordered with me. The food was not good or near worth the price. I will never go back there again!
Icing on the Cake!. Me and boyfriend drove into Austin from Houston...this place was recommended for dinner at sunset. We got there at 7 on sunday night and got a table right away. We got a picture with the sunsetting, it came out so beautiful. It was nice looking at all the scenery and the drive there was nice from our hotel on 5th St. We order chips, queso, mixed fajitas, he got a margarita and i ordered the daydreamer...delish! No complaints from us...the valet guys were nice...they noticed we just washed our car so they parked it right in the front on the pavement instead of out in the gravel. We dont have a chance to get such a beautiful view in Houston like this so we were made the most of a great dinner.
There's a broad range of Tex-Mex and American classics, but the real draw is the view of Lake Travis..
Hundreds can fit on this restaurant's many decks, which descend down the side of a 450-foot cliff above Lake Travis. Fervent sightseers can use the mounted telescopes to get close-ups of Mansfield Dam and Hippie Hollow. The Oasis has a varied mnu, with Tex-Mex favorites like grilled chicken enchiladas and crawfish enchiladas, burgers, grilled shrimp and steaks. Downstairs, the Longhorn Bar and the Starlight Terrace offer drinks and appetizers and the Starlight serves occasional buffets. A lightning strike in 2005 started a fire that burned down most of the restaurant, but it was rebuilt quickly, with several new decks added.
Great view but nasty food. If you wanna go to this place because the view is beautiful you right!..............but the food is the worse food you are going to taste in ur life.
One of a kind view. I think I need to stop checking the reviews on citysearch - as I'm afraid I'd never try anything since almost all the reviews are negative. Same thing here - I wasn't sure what we were getting into going to The Oasis on a weekend for a nice lunch. We were pleasantly surprised that we walked right in, got a nice table w/ a decent view and our server was nice. The food isn't gourmet by any means, but that's okay - it was good. I just wouldn't plan on going here for an "occasion" or a holiday as I'm sure it is totally packed. Overall, we had a nice time and even the kiddos behaved for a change.
Great Experience!. Although I don't live anywhere close to Lake Travis, I still enjoy taking a trip out to The Oasis for the spectacular view--not a bad seat in the place! It is even more breath-taking with the renovations. The food is much more enjoyable since they have a new chef. My personal favorite are the piratas topped off with a mango margarita:) I also thought the staff was more than helpful and was quite efficient. I would recommend The Oasis to anyone!!
Food and entertainment--Two for the price of one!. Oftentimes a restaurant has either a great ambiance OR great food, but the Oasis gives you both. As if the fantastic, destination-worthy view were not enough, the margaritas are great, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable (ok, drink prices may be a tad high, but when you consider the view that you get with it, it is reasonable). The waitstaff is skilled at propping and rotating umbrellas to keep you in the shade without forfeiting your view of the lake and horizon. This place is a MUST for bringing out of towners!
