Editorial Review for Java Noodles – by James Scott Bankston

In Short
Located in a strip center near a large valley of student apartments, Java Noodles is a quiet, family-style place with a smattering of Indonesian art on the walls. The large portions allow for sampling, causing a warm, communal feeling. Popular starters include the aroma-heavy coconut curry soup with mixed vegetables and chicken. The deep-fried squid with red curry sauce has an interesting texture and enough spice to give the dish a kick.

After dinner, make a point to order the homemade cheesecake. It may not be very Indonesian, but it is delicious.

Java noodle is so delish. i have never been inside the actual place, as i always order delivery, but it has the best curry in austin, hands down. everytime i wake up hung over from a night of drinking, my little tradition is to order like 50 bucks worth of java noodle and be in heaven for the rest of the day. i recommend anything with the shrimp, as they are huge and plump! and the indonesian fried rice is interesting and yummy. so next time you get drunk, put JN on speed dial!

Pros: ultra delish

Cons: takes about 45 min for deliv.

I am from Singapore and think I know what is "real" Indonesian food. Alas, this place ain't it. Food is cheap and tasty, but more Chinese than Indonesian. In the daytime, the place is hopelessly ill-lit and dingy, and very depressing. Not a place you want to linger in. Certainly not for meeting up with friends or for dates!

Pros: Cheap, tasty

Cons: Lack of atmosphere, dingy, dark
