Rude Customer Service, No Product Support

by Sbeatty at Citysearch

I purchased 2 propane-gas logs and a patio heater last Christmas, including extra expense for the installations and assembly. Both gas logs have automatic ignighters which still don't work. I contacted them several times and was told they would call me back. No response. I visited the store and was told there was nothing they could do since they no longer carried those igniters. After that bad experience, the patio heater failed. I followed the manual for cleaning and noticed the propane pipe had been pinched during assembly and now was clogged. It could not be repaired or cleaned sufficient to work. When I contacted the store regarding assistance, they said there was nothing they could do but sarcastically offered to sell me another heater.

There are too many other places to shop. Don't waste your time here.

Following the Golden Rule

by Mark Bunker at Citysearch

About three years ago I bought numerous items for an outdoor kitchen. Recently I had a major flare-up on my sear burner (my fault) and afterward the grill just wasn't working as well. I had BBQs Galore come out to fix it, but it turned out my grill was no longer offered and there were no parts available (I checked dozens of places online - couldn't even find my model referenced).

Matthew (sales associate) worked with Bryan (store manager) and offered a fair resolution - they sold me a new unit at cost.

These guys couldn't control which models were being produced, nor what repair parts would be available.

But they did offer to make it as right as they could -- without taking a loss, to be sure, but also without making a profit.

I'm satisfied, and likely to buy my next grill from them to show my appreciation.

 • Pros: Bent over backward to fix a problem they didn't cause

Horrible Service

I came in to purchase a Big Green Egg. I spent a few minutes talking to a salesman before their phone rang. He answered and spent, at least, five minutes catching up with a buddy of his. It obviously was not a customer calling or anything business related. I left. If their salespeople can't work with a customer in the store on a $1,000+ purchase, they don't deserve the business. Don't waste your time with Barbeques Galore.

There are other options in Austin. I ended up going to BBQ outfitters on 620 to buy my Big Green Egg. They were outstanding! They're a local business as well.

Bad service, employees disrespectful to each other

Made my second visit to this location yesterday. Went to purchase a Big Green Egg. These guys are almost like car dealers. Apparently, whatever your salesman works out with you is the price you get. They are not open about what kind of discounts you can get when purchasing accessories- had to dig for information.

When the merchandise was loaded into my car, there was an older gentleman yelling at a younger employee about the loading, saying "don't think, just do what I say". The younger gentleman was concerned that not everything was loaded and once again was snapped at by the other man.

When I got home, the younger man was correct. The stand for the grill, referred to as a nest, was not loaded. I called 15 min before closing time to let them know I did not get this item and was on my way back to pick it up. The man on the phone said they were closing up and that I would have to come back opening time the next day. This really upset me that after making a 1000.00 purchase, they would not be willing to wait for me to get all of my order. I made it just before closing time to pick up the nest. Upon making it home, there was yet one more item not given to me.

To sum this up, the service is sub par. I suggest comparing deals in the area and only shop here if you must.

 • Pros: The only Green Egg retailer in the area.
 • Cons: Terrible service.

Poor Customer Service

After much research on smokers I made my decision on the BBQ Chef Offset Smoker at BBQ's Galore. Found the store on Brodie Lane and headed over there Saturday morning to spend my weekend in assembly and smoking meats! Upon arrival they had an array of smokers and pits assembled outside the store on the sidewalk including the smoker I wanted. I inspected the smoker and was really impressed with it. The smoker appeared to be everything my research showed.

I walked inside ready to spend around $400 total on the smoker and other accessories and was greeted by a sales associate who answered a few general questions about some other pits that I saw. When I explained that I wanted the smoker displayed outside he walked to the back to see if they had it in stock.

A few minutes later he came back and told me they don't have any in stock and did not know when they would have any! I asked him if he could check to see when they WOULD have any and he shouts across the store to some other guy who said "Maybe Wednesday, there's no way of knowing what's going to be on the truck." The associate told me I could check back later in the week and see if they get any more.

He let me walk out the store, didn't bother checking a computer, making a call, nothing. I now learned there are other BG stores in the area. The least they could have done is call other stores and sent me to those locations if they had any.

Not real impressed with the very unhelpful, very unmotivated, very uncaring staff at the Brodie Lane store in Austin.

Bad job, guys.

 • Pros: Easy location, nice store, samples assembled in and out the store
 • Cons: Don't have displayed items in stock, lazy employees
