What Our Expert Scouts Say

Mozart's Coffee Roasters Inc
December 04, 2012

Mozart's is a warm and inviting jack of all trade coffee shops. Not many places can adequately cater to students cramming for that final, friends meeting for delectable desserts, and couples basking in the glow of the romantically lot patio.

The atmosphere of Mozart's is equal parts airy and cozy, a haven for studious grad schoolers and Lake Austin view seekers. Come winter, there's nothing like huddling over a cup of Mozart's hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and cinnamon, and perhaps a demure chocolate-covered strawberry on the side.

Mozart's going downhill. Mozart's has long been a great place in Austin--and the gorgeous location, as well as the quality of the coffee, may well make it worth it. But it's going downhill!! Bird "leavings" on the outside picnic tables, bagels made several days ago wrapped in saran wrap, the smell of burning food, all at sky high prices! So--only buy coffee, and BYO table cloth (and umbrella!) if you want to eat outside!!

Great coffeeshop with a view. Gotta love the multi-level decks overlooking Lake Austin and Tom Miller Dam. Born and raised in Austin and this place has been one of my favorite coffeehouses since I first discovered it years ago. Love the pastries and ice cream! They have some indoor seating for when it's too hot to be outside. Great place for a date, meeting with friends or taking out of town guests out. Unfortunately close parking is hard to find because of it's proximity to Hula Hut, but many spaces are usually available in the lots across and down the street.

Beautiful Place vs. Terrible Dessert. No doubt a beautiful place! I like its decoration and atmosphere. Drinks are recommended. But never try the desserts. The only credit I would like to give their desserts is how they look. But we are buying something edible!!!! The cholalate decadence cake is tooooo sweet. The key lime cake is hard, waxy, the coating is even terrible, I will think I'm eating a dough with sugar if I didn't look at my plate. Anyway, I won't spend even a cent on their desserts any more!!!

Lake Austin coffeehouse has big decks and affluent clientele.. In Short
With its broad lakeside decks, exposed-brick walls, shiny hardwood floors and chairs covered with burlap coffee sacking, Mozart's is neither corporate nor bohemian. The patrons are mostly west Austin "lakies" and more affluent students. Manager Jack Ranstrom, a veteran coffee maker, blends and roasts Mozart's coffee on-site. The usual coffee drinks are available, along with more than a dozen varieties of tea. The pastry chefs create cakes so decorative they're almost architectural.

damn good spot to bring someone from out of town. great coffee!

good desserts but not the best. this is a great place to come to get work done, bring an out-of-town friend, or play catch up with an old one. this is also a great place for a lazy sunday with a significant other to just talk and reconnect. bring a book or bring a friend or bring a date.

Great deck!. The deck is great and the desserts are fabulous. But be warned....the coffee is pretty sub-standard. I've had a couple of bad coffee experiences there and I don't recommend it if you need your java, but the pastries are really good and the desserts are great!

What a coffee shop should be. I love Mozarts! It has the BEST coffee (try the Mocha Special, it's the best mocha I've had in town - and their hot chocolate is made with real chocolate, not that gritty stuff you get at the bottom of the cup sometimes), great desserts/cakes (there's always something new to try), AND a superb view. Mozart's embodies what I look for in a good coffeeshop.

Plus, they've got wifi and lots of tables, which makes it a greaty study spot as well, in addition to being a great place to relax after a date :)
