Bank of America.
Bank of America took 5 days to clear a check for me (no, not a personal check, the paycheck from the major corporation I work for). In the meantime, my bills were drafted out of my account automatically and I was charged $35 each time. I keep getting charged with overdraft fees and "extended" overdraft fees. When I called their help line, I was told to go to the bank. When I talked to someone at the bank, they told me to call their help line. I talked to numerous people, most of them very rude, none of them at all helpful. One woman on the phone snickered when she saw how much I was going to be charged. My letter to the corporate office was, of course, ignored (so far, at least).
I've got to hand it to you, BoA -- that's a pretty clever system you have there. You take a ludicrous amount of time to clear a check, and then you charge someone over and over for overdrafting while you hold their money from them.
I'm changing banks tomorrow.
PS - The person here talking about BoA's "outstanding customer service" must work there. I honestly can't think of any other explanation for such a high rating.

poorly managed location & rude staff.
I've banked with Bank of America for over 15 years. As far as service goes, it's usually just OK. They've found a way to charge a service fee for the most mundane of things. However, they do have the most ATMs and are located just about everywhere (even many international locations).
I do also hold an account at University Federal Credit Union. UFCU can't compete as far as size, but their service is 10x better.
The Arboretum location is by far the worst of the locations I have visited. The staff is rude and unhelpful. They even go to the point of shouting at their customers. I guess they believe because of their convenient location that they can do this. I've had to visit this one on several ocassions (it's on my way to work) and there's always some "event" were staff is rude or is more interested in doing non-bank activities (eg, hanging out, chatting with other workers, using their cell phone).
If you don't need a bank that's everywhere, go for one of the local credit unions. It will be a lot less headache.
Best financial institution I've ever banked with. I've banked with Washington Mutual, Citibank, and now Bank of America and Bank of America is by far the best. The customer service I receive at B of A has surpassed even my highest expectations. I would recommend this bank to ANYONE.
