EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!.
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
I ordered a noodle dish at 2:30pm on Monday. By 3am, I was in the bathroom experiencing some of the worst food poisoning I've ever endured. I called in sick Tuesday and Wednesday. I was barely able to work by Thursday.
If you ever experience food poisoning from a resteraunt, make sure you go to the doctor and get it documented or they won't reimburse anything, nor will they take responsibility.
I went back to let management know they had a problem with food safety, but it was made very clear that I was the only one with a problem.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!
STAY AWAY.
TODAY I ORDERED STEAMED VEGGI DUMPLINGS AND PORK DUMPLINGS AND A VEGGI EGG ROLL TO GO.
I WAS TOLD 20 MINUTES, 35 MINUTES LATER
MY ORDER WAS READY, WHEN I ASKED WHAT TOOK SO LONG, ALL I GOT WAS SORRY ABOUT THAT. WHEN I GOT HOME I FOUND THE DUMPLINGS WERE DOUGHY AND TASTELESS, NOT EVEN EDIBILE, THE EGG ROLL WAS STRINGY CABBAGE AND NO BETTER. I WON"T BE GOING BACK.
Chinatown Is Great. Take out. Dine in. Either way. The people there are friendly and the food is always great. I have lived on the East Coast, West Coast, Chicago, and now here in Austin. This place is top notch. And the prices are reasonable. And the dishes are consistant. One thing I learned after moving here from San Francisco in the 90's is that Texans prefer quantity over quality. "All you can eat for $5.95" goes big here. Not in CA. There it is quality over quantity. And Chinatown Westlake has the perfect balance. Kid friendly, too. Want bad Chinese food? Go to Lexington, MA or Seaside, OR.
Food's great - Be careful when you order for pickup on the phone. Food's great. We are never disappointed. But, when you call to place an order for pick-up, especially, if you get a man to take your order, good luck to you. He's very impolite, short with you, and says things back to you that throw you off guard, such as, "woah, woah, woah, say the number again" in a very unkind manner.
OK, but not great.. We tried Chinatown because the Citysearch reviews indicated it was a great place for Chinese; we didn't agree. Their food isn't awful, but I don't think it warrants the outstanding reviews posted by some Citysearchers. I've had much better Chinese food (in Houston - we still haven't found a place in Austin). In addition, their prices are bloated for the quality of the food. We're not going back.
Pretty Good Chinese.
This is an okay Chinese restaurant. We tried it because our 4 year old LOVES this kind of food, being new in town we didn't know where else to go, so based on Citysearch reviews we tried Chinatown.
Let's just say it wasn't the best Chinese I've had nor the worst. Portions are gigantic so you may not want to order as much as usual unless you plan on leftovers. Otherwise the staff was friendly and helpful.
Editorial Review. Spicy Hunan cuisine along with Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghai dishes serves dumplings, spring rolls, coconut curry shrimp and kung-pao chicken.
Wonderful, Unique Chinese/Hunan Cuisine. I love Chinatown and the food they serve. You will find the familiar and some unique dishes on their large menu that are guaranteed to tantalize your tastebuds! I always start with the Lettuce Wraps and have tried over 10 dishes on their menu and have never left disappointed. The owner is so friendly and always remembers me by name. You will love it!
Great Chinese Food, Fantastic Service. The food at Chinatown rocks! It exceeds that of alot of the other popular places in Austin and you don't have to fight the crowds. I was seated right away! The menu is large and offers a lot of variety for both those looking to splurge and those looking to cut back. I will definitely return at lunch when they have their specials.
Great Service, Delicious Food. I tried Chinatown on Bee Caves the other day for dinner and was impressed with the quality of food and service I received. I was seated right away and my food was served quickly even though it was prime dinner hours at 7:00. Everything was fresh and delicious. If you like Chinese and are looking for somewhere new, definitely give Chinatown a try.
