What People Are Saying About Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q

In Short – This looks and feels like a rural barbecue joint, from the rustic siding and red cinderblock walls to the exposed ducts. A long tin chest holds bottles of beer and soft drinks immersed in sparkling ice. Order at the counter, then retreat to picnic tables either indoors or outside. Large groups can really spread out. Meat's the thing here, and everything--brisket, turkey, pork ribs and jalapeño sausage--has a genuine smoky flavor all by itself.
Corporate BBQ
by justinmwelch
I used to love this place. But, it has now officially become corporate BBQ. Over the years the extra moist brisket has become less "moist" and less "dirty" in order to occomdate the homogenized tastes of an expanding empire that now covers from at least San Antonio to Tyler. You used to be able to compensate for this by telling the cashier you wanted "extra, extra juicy" and/or "extra dirty," etc. However, I showed up tonight and the young, spry, eager cashier responded to my request for "extra, extra juicy & dirty" brisket informing me that (a) they only offer "extra moist" through lean brisket, and (b) corporate policy doesn't allow referring the brisket as "juicy" or "dirty". And, she assured me that she'd be there for all of a year, and she'd never even heard the term "extra, extra moist." Corporate expansion has ruined the ambiance of this place. That said, the BBQ is still very good even if not extra, extra moist, juicy, dirty or whatever. But it's definitely not the unique fantastic place it used to be. Hope they're making alot of money to compensate for selling out.

I use Rudy's for Group Meals at least 1-2X/week. I continue to use them because they are consistently on time, everything is complete and well-packaged, and the food is always high-quality. The staff is friendly and pro-active in their teamwork, ensuring their teammates are on the way. Thank you Rudy's!
Solid, fast food, Que

I like Rudy's, it isn't the greatest, but it is what it is. A fast food barbecue place. Before Rudy's, I can't really remember where I used to go and get tasty quick, Que. Everything there is good, but the "eckrich style" sausage is just that. You can't really hold it against them though, how else do they have the time to make their own sausage.
- Pros: Quck Service Barbecue, the brisket is real brisket, not shoulder
- Cons: rubbery sausage
