Massage is wonderful!.
All the therapists are wonderful at The Hills. Mary Catherine does a wonderful mix of sports and deep tissue massage with techniques that I've never had before. Afterward she gave a glass of cucumber/mint infused water (delicious!) and went through different stretches and exercises I can do at home to keep my muscles at top performance. A true massage therapist!
I know other places will offer massages for a smaller rate, but when it comes to this: You really do get what you pay for!
Best Massage. Hills therapists rock. I've had massages by Cristi, Rodrigo and Julie and all were off the charts. They know how to do deep tissue and sports massage and trigger point. And they can do lighter Swedish if you need that, or chair massage too. These therapists have un-done years of tension in my body in just an hour and a half. You can get same-day appointments there.
Fantastic running trail. The running trail is amazing. It winds through the woods and over the creek. I've even seen deer while I was jogging. It is very peaceful and secluded, yet the property is completely fenced in so you feel safe while jogging. They even have lights that come on when it starts to get dark. I also enjoy the patio that overlooks the pool.
great trainers.... The Hills has some of the Best trainers in Austin. The club is set back in the hills under the tress its beautiful setting.
Great gym, question childcare.
There's no question that the Hills is an upscale and inviting place to get in shape. I was especially attracted to year round swimming with both the indoor and outdoor pool, massage services, free help from a personal trainer to set up an exercise routine, and the diversity of the people I saw working out. I felt that I could work on my fitness goals and not feel embarrassed. The locker room is very nice and clean and the walking/jogging trail outside is really relaxing. It feels like walking through the woods.
However, one of the most important things for me was that the Hills offered childcare. I tried it once and won't again. They appear to have no procedure for checking children in and out. They didn't ask me who I was when I dropped off and picked up my little one or ask for ID. Anyone could have picked up my child as there was different staff there from when I dropped my child off. I told them my child's name when I left them, because the staff didn't ask. From their perspective, it seems like they would at least like to make sure I had an appointment. The atmosphere was nice enough and the people seemed friendly, but no safety procedures alarmed me. I got a bad feeling, and decided to follow my Mommy intuition and not bring my child there again. Disappointing, because it will be harder for me to use the gym now.
Luxury Health Club. The Hills health club is the best luxury health club facility in Austin. The customer service is wonderful and the atmosphere is calming. They have so many classes to choose from and the cafe has a beautiful view and great food. I would recommend the Hills to anyone looking for a first-class health club.
Upscale recreation and fitness center offers physical therapy, spa services, sporting goods, child care and a cafe..
In Short
The Hills is a unique club with a very relaxing atmosphere. A delightful surprise is the beautiful setting of the heated outdoor pool and a challenging jogging trail winding through the woods of Eanes Creek. This club has exceptional personal trainers and one of Austin's finest Pilates programs. Additionally, members get free personal training sessions, fitness assessments and nutritional counseling that are offered every three month to help members stay on task toward achieving their fitness goals. Racquetball and basketball programs are also available.
Much Improved!.
There have been many construction issues in my year at the Hills as a member. Through this they have proven to be very uncompasssionate or caring towards the situation with the childcare (they are crammed in a room the size of my closet untill the construction is finished). When I tried to speak with the manager (Allen) about this I was told "he did not have time to deal with this". If you are a parent who is thinking of joining this gym and would actually like to use the facility you are paying to use, you may want to reconsider untill the construction is complete.
UPDATE:
Childcare completed and wonderful!
Manager much nicer now that not having to deal with construction issues.
Best trainer in Austin. Ryan Mueller is the best personal trainer in Austin. He makes you work really, really hard but then you see great results. He pushes beyond what you think you are capable of, but then you do it. I can't speak highly enough of him.
No Onsite Childcare. The facility is not friendly towards mothers with small children. The onsite childcare has been moved to an inconvient location for most members. Plan to add 45 minutes to workout time to transport young children to offsite location.
