The entire staff at DLC is top-notch and I felt so comfortable with the entire process. They are a little pricier than others, but they are the best at what they do and definitely worth the extra money in the long run. I am so satisfied with the service provided to me and the care in follow up that Dr. Cunningham provides. I told my dad about how easy the procedure was and he is now considering getting it done himself. I would definitely recommend DLC to anyone considering vision correction surgery.
Miracle worker.
I was completely blind and now I have perfect vision. I had been wanting laser eye surgery for years now and kept putting it off. Not only is it a large investment, but I was also worried about having to wear my glasses for so long leading up to the surgery. There is a lot to consider... but it is completely worth it! It is truly life changing!
You only have one pair of eyes and I would trust Dell... he is the best in town!
No more contacts.
I've worn monovision contacts for several years and decided to make it permanent--no more contacts. Had my surgery 3 weeks ago and am now 20/20. My vision is still adjusting in the intermediate range (common for monovision).
The surgery was quick, totally painless, and kind of fascinating, actually. I slept for a few hours after the surgery.
I have very dry eyes, which Dr. Dell started treating well before the surgery by putting plugs in my tear ducts (again, super fast and zero pain whatsoever) and prescribing eye drops. I am still dealing with that and am using eye drops several times a day as part of my post surgery. All of that complicated my recovery a bit but not too big of a deal. The Restasis and the preservative free Optive eyedrops come in little plastic tubes/vials that have a twist off seal that can then be used as a cap to reseal the vial until you've used all the drops. You can usually get 2-3 uses per vial. Once I started using Restasis and also increased the frequency of Optive eye drops, I saw a dramatic increase in my vision and recovery. I am also using AzaSite to treat inflammation of my eyelids which was slowing my recovery a bit too.
Dr. Cunningham has been very helpful in my post-op follow up visits, explaining things and answering questions, and taking time to make sure I was confident in handling all the info.
I read that Dr. Steven Dell's brother is Michael Dell of Dell computers.
I highly recommend Dell Laser Consultants--you get what you pay for!
Best Decision Ever!!!. I’ve been wearing either glasses or contacts for 35 years and recently decided to get Lasik. The staff at Dell Laser Consultants gave an extremely thorough explanation of the procedure; steps to take beforehand, what to expect after, and answered my questions in an easy to follow “non-doctorspeak” manner. The procedure itself was painless and took all of ten minutes; I was in at 1:20 PM, given some pre-surgery Valium to relax, and was out the door before 3PM. I was cleared to drive the next day, and my vision has improved even more since then. I would tell anyone who is considering Lasik to visit Dr. Dell and staff; I can’t recommend them strongly enough!
Best in town.
Where to begin...
I've been in glasses since age 8 and contacts since 19. Horrible astigmatism and near-sightedness (-3.5 in left eye and -4.75 in the right).
Lately my contacts had started to bother me, and I decided enough was enough...Been eyeing getting LASIK done for some time, and through the meetings with Dr. DeFeo at Ultimate Eyecare I decided the pull the trigger.
You *know* you're walking into the right place when you're almost breathless entering the facilities. Clean, warm and welcome.
The staff is super-nice, and really know know what's going on.
Day of surgery you plan on roughly 3 hrs time there. First you'll turn in your forms, pay up and get the paperwork taken care off.
Next, a quick meeting to describe step by step exactly what's going on.
Plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Next, Dr. Cunningham will perform one last check to ensure the prescription and settings are all correct, make you read the letters on the wall etc.
Dr. Steven Dell next sits down with you, explains again exactly what you're here to do, allows for questions and puts you to ease.
Next, Valium...to literally make you chillaaaaaaax. You're in a room with the others who are in front of you waiting to be lasered...:)
The actual procedure itself was cake. You lay down, and hold on to a teddy-bear..(I kid you not)..and you get "friggin lasers" beamed into your "friggin eyes" (yes, I inserted Austin Powers reference). It is completely painless; you're only job is to simply lie still, look where they tell you to look and let the pros do their job.
Once you are done, and I kid you not, your vision is already better. You get your significant other (or someone else who doesn't mind you drooling in their car thanks to the valium) to drive you home and you take a nap.
The next day I am able to get out of bed and see clearly for the first time in 26 yrs.
One final thing: This isn't the cheapest place, far from it. If you are looking for a place that offers lay-away plans and surgery in the back of a car, you're looking for the wrong place.
However, if you are looking for the place that oozes professionalism, that know what's going on and where movie-stars and athletes go, then you've come to the right place.
I love my new eyes!. I had IntraLASIK about 24 hours ago and am already extremely pleased with the results! I drove myself to my follow-up appointment this morning and was amazed that I could already read all the street signs. Everyone at Dell Laser Consultants made me feel comfortable and confident during the entire process. I would recommend them to anyone looking to improve their vision.
I CAN SEE!. I just recently had LASIK surgery done by Dr. Dell and my experience has been great! I am very happy and wish I had done it sooner. The staff and Doctors were very helpful throughout the whole process and I felt I was in very good hands. I highly recommend DLC.
I can see clearly now!!!!. I have worn glasses and or contacts since I failed my first eye exam at the age of 6. Now at 35, I am finally free. Free to do so many things others take for granted. Free to see the time on the alarm clock in the middle of the night without fumbling for my glasses. Something like that may seem silly but for those of us whose sight was so bad, it's a GREAT thing!! I did a lot of research before choosing a surgeon. Dr. Dell is, in my opinion, top notch. Not only Dell Laser Center a great facility but Dr. Dell works with Doctors in other cities so that patients like me who don't live in Austin are able to do pre op and post op visits in the towns where we live. After laser surgery, you have to go to many follow up appointments and traveling to Austin each time is just too hard when you work full time. I'm able to take care of all those visits in New Braunfels and that has been a lifesaver. I am SO happy with my vision. It's been just over a month and every day I'm still so excited. My case was a tough one and I was treated with care and concern before, during and after my procedure. Thanks Dr. Dell!!! You're the BEST!!
tired of contacts/glasses let Dell Laser fix your vision.
After wearing gas-permeable contacts for 22 years and having to mess with them at least 20 or more minutes a day, i'm excited.
I'm excited of my new found time. Time that I can enjoy. Time I can go swimming and not worry about losing contacts. I only had the surgery 15 hours ago and I'm sure i'll find many other things to be excited about in the future.
Dr. Cunningham, Dr. Dell and staff were friendly and respectable.
The cost of about $3000 per eye really is not that much when you figure the amount you're saving by not buying contacts, solution and glasses for hopefully the rest of your life. The only glasses you possibly might have to buy are reading glasses in your late forties or fifties.
Dell Laser Consultants.
I'm writing a review because when I was contemplating whether to have this done and who might do it, I read every review I could find. I did a great deal of research on not only the procedure but each doctor/business that provided it. Dr. Dell consistently came up as one of the highest ranked professionals performing the service. He has clearly made it his mission to perform the highest quality service in Austin.
My story is like the others. I put my first set of contacts in when I was 18 and pretty much never took them out. I have always hated glasses. I was -4.25 in my right eye with a slowly worsening astigmatism that wasn't corrected with contacts. My left eye was -3.25. I waited for the industry to perfect Lasik for the past 10 years before I realized that I would be too old to appreciate vision correction if I waited too much longer.
The worst part of having this done for me was wearing my glasses for three weeks straight before the procedure. I haven't done that since I was twelve. It was so miserable that I almost gave up a couple of times. My procedure was in Dec. 2008. My corneas were thick enough that they could create the flaps, so I didn't have to have the ASA (flap-less) procedure done. I just had my one month appointment.
The procedure itself was short and unexciting. You watch the red light and then it's done. The eye washing afterwards was pretty weird but the only part that was remotely painful was the suction ring they put on your eye, and that was more pressure than pain. Afterwards, things were hazy but I could clearly see. That sleeping part when you get home after the procedure is really important. I wish I'd slept longer, but when I woke up, my eyes felt much better and I could look around with too much tearing. The next day was pretty amazing. I could see 20/20. I'm still getting used to my vision. I call it my "high def" vision. Everything is so clear and crisp. Colors seem brighter. I don't really have any halos or starbursts. Lights at night are strange to me because they've always been a bit blurry around the edges. Now they're crisp and sharp. My vision with both eyes at my one month visit was 20/15. I couldn't be happier. I understand that I may have some regression although it's very unlikely. They won't be able to tell that until my three month visit. I'm not worried because Dr. Dell really does make it his mission to try and give great results. I will also say that pre and post op visits with Dr. Cunningham were great. I never had to wait more than a few minutes, and he always took the time to answer all my questions.
Couple of things that weren't so great - wearing the goggles at night for a week was not fun. Imagine sleeping in ski goggles... Not rubbing your eye.. ever again. Drops, drops and more drops for the first month. I've had two bad dry eye days, but otherwise, my eyes feel completely normal.
Bottom line - I am so glad I had this done. It has been everything I hoped it would be. I can't wait to go to Schlitterbahn this summer and be able to SEE while I'm in the water without worrying about my contacts!
