Bland food and bad service.
Well, my first mistake was getting the Queso Especial...the texture and flavor (queso, guac and ground beef mix) was absolutely unpalatable. The enchiladas were bland...as were the sides. I think it takes talent to make beef enchiladas that bland- that's just my opinion- but in short, they were terrible.
Management is overwhelmed. When I was there the bar tender and one other server were waiting on like 10 or 15 tables a piece so service was bad. The manager lady was a bit- , well I want use profanity but she was unfriendly and I don't blame her. That place is a nightmare. I will never go back.

Build your own plate.
Ever find yourself wanting to alter an item you find on the menu? No beans sub guacamole? At Tres Amigos, you can build your own plate. You get exactly what you're craving for a great price! And.....they have great coupons. I received an email for $12 off my next meal.

a great austin business - good food and very comfortable atmosphere.
What a fantastic locally owned family type restaurant! Great food and the service has improved dramatically... Mondays $3.25 Margaritas... can't beat that. Check out the south (hidden) location. Slaughter and Manchaca next to the thundercloud and gas station.

A friendly Mexican chain offering good food at great prices..
In Short
In addition to large dining areas and a patio, there are numerous rooms available for private functions. The restaurant gets crowded at lunch when scores of office workers drop in; dinner is usually a quieter affair. Specials are offered everyday and focus on variations of the entree, rice and beans combo. The also have egg dishes, salads and appetizers--the super sampler includes stuffed jalapenos, quesadillas and more.

Try it Now?.
Other reviews are 2 years old. I never went to Tres Amigos "back in the day", but have been to two of the locations (183 and 290) this year (05) and both experiences were very good! The "buildings" are just OK, but the food is excellent, drinks tasty and moderately-priced, and the staff is very friendly. Also good for kids!

Great Neighborhood Restaurant.
Tres Amigos has been around for a long time. It's "old school" but has changed a lot in the last few years. The food is great, the service is quick and friendly and you get plenty of food for the money.

Bland, flavorless food.
Our experience at Tres Amigos consisted of extremely bland food in a standard strip mall atmosphere -- something you'd expect at the cafeteria at a retirement community, not a mexican restaurant. Although the service was ok, the food makes this place a no go.
