Dependable Tex-Mex. I love the new one at Brodie Oaks as well...CHEAP lunch specials and extraordinary service every time!

Best Mexican food I've ever had!. The Texican Cafe is the best! I eat there at least once a week. The service is always amazing and the margaritas are to die for!

Pretty darn good Mexican fare.. Pretty tasty TexMex style food for a fair price that comes with friendly and prompt service. Nothing to complain about here. We've been going there for years.

Downhill Slide, Now at the Bottom. I first visited the Texican Cafe about 15 years ago. At that time it was great. A great little hole in the wall. Good food at a good price. I've been back several times over the years and have watch the food decline allong with the service.

My visit on 02/09/08 will be my last. They finally reached the bottom. Not only was I served something different from what I ordered, the waitress didn't care or offer to change it. I went ahead and ate what was before me since I was with a group. It wasn't very good, greasy and salty. When the check came, my original ordered item was priced $2 more than what was on the menu!

El Paso/Albuquerque sauces and food prep!. We have been going to the Texican for almost a year now since moving from the Dallas area. I am originally from west Texas and had resigned myself to knowing that I would never find a restaurant in this part of the state that had all the food and sauces I remember my mom preparing when I was younger. Their enchilada sauce is true New Mexico influenced. I still bring my chili pods whenever I travel back home in order to make my own sauce. Now, I have discovered I will not need a huge supply as The Texican has the same tasting sauce I remember my mother making. The food is excellent and you know it's good when driving up to and the parking lot is full. I know it is located in a strip shopping center but the other cars there must be at the billiards place next door. Try their enchiladas, tamales, tacos and fajitas. The flautas were a bit of a disappointment because the cook piled the lettuce and tomato on top and made them mushy by the time they arrived at our table. Nevertheless, it is an excellent restaurant and does not compare to anything Austin or San Antonio now have. It is true El Paso/Albuquerque dining at it's best.

Friendly Tex-Mex spot known for its made-fresh sauces.. In Short
This is a very neighborly kind of restaurant, with lots of regulars. Sure, the menu includes things like fajitas, tacos and enchiladas, but that's just the half of it. Then there are steak dinners, shrimp fajitas, chile rellenos and flautas. All dishes are also made from scratch, so anything you try will be as fresh as can be. Texican also makes incredible sauces--one of the reasons diners keep coming back for more.

Great Value, Great Food. South, south Austin doesn't have many quality restaurants...but don't let this one housed in a strip center fool you. The staff is always friendly, the food consistently good...try the shrimp flautas...and the salsa! You may feel like you are driving to north San Antonio, but it's well worth it.

Nothing Special. Texican Cafe has half of their decor stolen from Chili's. Their food, while somewhat better, is nothing to write home about. And you can get better Mexican food almost anywhere. Their shrimp enchilada was skimpy on the filling. Their steak was ridiculously fatty and not very appetizing. It tasted like they cooked it in a pound of butter, to make matters worse. Margarita's weren't bad and the waitstaff was nice.
