What Our Expert Scouts Say

From delicious oysters to $2 taco Tuesday, this place is the best. They also provide fish to restaurants, so you know what you're getting is fresh.

As you can imagine, Austin is not the epicenter of seafood offerings. That is why we nautical fare-loving foodies celebrate this Austin institution. If you're looking for shrimp, oysters, fish- you name it- for your next dinner or party, Quality Seafood is the spot, but it's their $2 Taco Tuesdays that are the best bet. Choose from shrimp, mahi mahi or catfish prepared in various ways and with salsa options such as verde cream and mango pineapple pico. If you need a little drinky-drink with your cooked sea creatures, they also offer $2 domestic beers!

Fresh Seafood!!. I like to buy my stuff at Quality Seafood Market to prepare my Paellas. The taste and the flavor is really good and totally fresh.

Nice combo of a Market and Restaurant. Quality Seafood has been here for years and my whold family has been going there! I don't understand the person who remarked that there isn't much of a market. There certainly is. And my regular meal at any other restaurant would cost much more and I would also be obligated to leave a tip. I think the casual atmosphere at Quality is very Austin and I prefer it to the others.

Absolutely the best. I come here to buy seafood and am always impressed with the quality and prices. Cheaper then Central Market and fresher too. I bought wild salmon from both places and Quality Seafood's was much better in quality.

Not much Quality, not much Market. I normally do not write reviews of restaurants but I just can't pass this one up. A co-worker suggested going to Quality Seafood for lunch one day and I must say how disappointed I was with the lack of Quality food, service, prices, and taste could be experienced all at one place!

When you enter you are greeted by the "Market" part of the restaurant which is certainly the thinnest seafood market I've ever seen. You know, the last time I checked, a fish market was supposed to have FISH. Bad first impression...then, continuing in line I looked through the menu, which appears to be well rounded but once you make your way to the ordering station the ineptitude of the staff certainly reflects the ineptitude of the ownership. (It's not the check-out girl's fault that this place is bad)

The food: bland, bland, bland. The worst excuse for a hush-puppy I've ever had. Crab cakes that were all cake and no discernable crab, and high prices for scimpy portions.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague...on second thought, you might CATCH the plague here...so don't go.

worst seafood I've ever had. I don't normally do these reviews, but in exceptional cases, I will. This place was exceptionally AWFUL. The worst seafood I have ever had. I have eaten much better (and for less) at Long John Silvers. I only gave it 1 star because I wasn't sure it would accept a ZERO STAR rating.

For $15 i got....

a) 4 small fried shrimp.....overcooked to the point that they were actually chewy.

b) 4 tiny fried scallops...not overcooked like the shrimp, but 1 was burned dark brown, the rest just overcooked

c) 2 horrible crab cakes...mostly bread and filling. One of them actually had a rubber band inside. I've never had a chewy crab cake before. Of course, I've never had a rubber band-stuffed crab cake before either.

All the breading was tasteless & underspiced. The half ear of corn boiled to the point of mushiness (I ordered corn bread...got corn). They serve margarine instead of butter...yech.

At $3.50 or $4.00, the beer was overpriced. The house "merlot" for $4.00 was drinkable though. Best part of the meal was the salad. I should have stopped there.

Anyhow, I'd avoid the place. Spend $6 and go to Long John Silvers. Or spend $40 and go to Trulucks. But I wouldn't go to this place.

Best seafood in town!. This has always been one of my favorite places to eat in town. The atmosphere is laid-back and the service is relaxed without being inattentive and the servers are friendly without being overbearing. The food is really very good. I found out that these guys actually supply fish to most of the high-end restaurants in Austin, but they serve it here at a much better price.

The crawfish and the oysters on the half shell are huge and the etouffee is one of the best I've had. The blackened fish dinners are my favorite and they are very reasonably-priced.

I wish they had a full bar, but if you're okay with beer or wine, it's not a problem. All in all, it's a good place to hang out and have a great meal for not too much money.

More like Bad Quality Seafood Market. To begin with the employees are creepy, I placed my order to go and was waiting for my food when I noticed that one of their employees was starring at me. He looked like the banjoe player out of the movie Deleverance. To go with my order I bought some soft shell crabs, only to find out later they were spoiled. My order to go was a 3 piece catfish meal, I only got 2 pieces, the hush puppys and french fries were cold and stal. The lady that took my order was just as cold and lifeless as the food. The whole place had a creepy, cold feeling to it. All their employees acted and like zoombies. I should have took my friends advise and not gone there.

Disappointed. The fish market is GREAT! The restuarant is disappointing. I gave them 3 chances and they just disappointed each time. The fried shrimp if not overcooked and hard, (happened my third visit) are average at best. The blackened fish was overcooked to the point the seasoning was burned, that made the fish bitter. They have the best seafood market in town but tarnish it with the restuarant. I could really whip up some tasty dishes given the quality of the market, but they don't seem to be interested in anything but average with the restuarant.

Come for the fresh fish at the market, stay for the budget-friendly fare and the heavenly hushpuppies.. In Short
The walls and ceilings are decorated with posters, paintings and pictures of everything under the sea. The decor will keep the kids happy, and the reasonably priced family platters will please parents. Order from the menu posted over the counter; they'll bring the food to your table. The generous dinners are inexpensive and come with fries, slaw, and some of the tastiest hushpuppies in town. Want to try your hand at your own seafood masterpiece? The adjoining market has anything you could want from the sea. Free WiFi available.
