What Our Expert Scouts Say

NeWorlDeli
November 04, 2012

A classic deli resting just on the outskirts of Hyde Park, NeWorlDeli specializes in sandwiches with lovingly selected ingredients, but don't miss out on their soups, either: The Broccoli Cheese is heavy but outstanding; the Chicken Poblano is just the right balance of nurturing and yow! spicy.

Good Spot. I've been going to New World Deli for about 7 years and have never had a dissapointing experience. They have a great tuna melt and their Greek salad is wonderful. I wish they had a better way to expedite call-in orders and the huge lunch rush. I do appreciate that they discourage ordering their grilled sandwiches to-go, because they are meant to be eaten hot, fresh and not soggy. Overall, a good place with great sandwiches. I have not tried their dinner, but their menu looks enticing.

Great Austin Owned Deli with a Great BIG Austin Personality!. I've been eating at New World Deli for years and every time I visit, I walk out with a smile on my face. The food is great (everybody knows about their Reuben but they excel in much more than that) and the service is always fast and friendly. You can have a beer or a nice glass of wine with your meal and they have live music on a regular basis. While the place is a "deli," it does have a very nice comfortable feel that my wife and I enjoy before a movie or a show when we go on "date night." The owners, Greg and Sarah and their daughters are always there working the counter and the crowd. At lunch time, they take your name when you place your order. On one of our visits a while back, Greg had the packed dining room rolling when he sang a few verses of Simon and Garfunkles' "Cecilia" until Cecilia came to claim her sandwich. Unlike a lot of Austin restaurants, both local and chain, they really do a good job of making everyone who goes in there feel important.

Just Great Sandwiches!. I eat here regularly as I work downtown and the sandwiches are always fantastic. The ingredients make the difference as your standard sub shops just can't compare. Food is always fresh and the menu provides many options. My only complaint is it sometimes gets really busy at lunch, but it is still worth the wait.

Best Deli in Town. This is a great place to go to grab a quick, delicious, relaxed meal. One of my personal favorites is the Tuna Salad on Sunflower wheat with a cup of the most amazing tomato basil soup. All of the people working there have been extremely nice and helpful. The deli is usually very quite and relaxed creating a great atmosphere to have a low key lunch with a friend, or even go out with friends for a great lunch. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Tasty sandwiches !. I had heard good things about NeWorlDeli, so my friends and I decided to check it out. I got the meatloaf sandwich, and it had ample toppings of red onion, tomatoes, mustard, and mayo. I enjoyed the meatloaf sandwich but REALLY liked what my friends ordered, the curried chicken salad sandwich. The pasta salad was good too! Nice atmosphere, well kept place. And my friend said the restrooms are nice too? You do have to bus your own table (as others have said), but it's simple and fast. Pretty reasonable prices. I will definitely go back there again!

Fresh, high-quality ingredients and deli sandwiches with flair.. In Short
The casual, comfortable Hyde Park deli combines a European cafe with a down-to-earth diner. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow plenty of light to shine on the multitude of interior plants while mustard-colored walls display local artwork. An eclectic menu features sandwiches (many vegetarian), wraps and salads. Popular choices for the lunchtime rush are the half-sandwich/soup combo (soups rotate) and a crunchy curried chicken salad with grapes and walnuts. Fresh-baked desserts include sweet, fluffy Key lime pie.

deli-style comfort food. great sandwiches, breads, soups, what's not to love? if you are looking for a good lunch spot, this is the place. (and yes, you are supposed to bus your table, but really, who cares? it only takes a second and the food is worth it.)

Majorly OVERRATED!. My two friends had salads/soups,and all asked for extra dressing. We got our salads with tiny cups of dressing. When we requested extra, rudely, the woman behind the counter said " For future reference, when you order, tell them you want extra dressing because it cost .25 extra." We tried to tell her that we did, but she just ignored us. I will admit the salads are big & inexpensive, the soup on the otherhand was served warm at best. After we were done, we didnt know if we should bus our table, but after seeing other ppl. leave without doing so, we figured we didnt have to, and besides, all the garbages were overflowing with trash. One of the workers let out another huge sigh, obviously directed towards us because we hadnt bussed our table. I def. will NOT be going back there because of the extremely rude staff/ok food.
