We started shopping at Buck Moore Feed & Supply when my husband and I moved here from out of state and wanted a specific type of dog food (Canidae). Buck Moore Feed & Supply was the only place that carried it. I always see both the father and son or one of them working when I go in and they're always so helpful and cordial. They always go out of their way to help you and always carry the food out to my car. I love that it's a family owned business and that I'm helping to support such wonderful people and great products. They aren't open as late as the commercial stores, such as PetsMart or Petco, but it is a small price to pay. Even if the 'big' stores started carrying Canidae, I would still shop at Buck Moore Feed & Supply because I am devoted to their charming store!

Buck Moore has been around forever, and is the only pet/feed store in town that does not sell live animals of any kind. No guinea pigs, rats, birds, etc. Buck Moore sells only the finest quality foods for dogs and cats. No Purina or Meow Mix here. This is the only place in town to get Candidae/Felidae. They are all informed about animal nutrition, unlike many employees of the big box pet stores, and can give great recommendations about what to feed your animals. His wife also operates a small gift shop in the feed store, with some really neat and unique items. I like to go in and just poke around. The clearances are great! They carry all kinds of yummy smelling soy candles. They have an old glass bottle coke machine, and the cash register is original to the store (it has been around since the 60's). The only drawback I can think of is the hours. 8-5:30 or 6 during the week, 8 to 1 on Saturday I think - however if you are a regular and running a bit late and call they will sometimes leave the store open just for you. Try getting PetSmart to do that!

Old Austin personified - but modern day quality. I shopped at Buck Moore Feed before there was a Petsmart, or a Petco. I shopped at Buck Moore Feed after there was a Petsmart or a Petco. Why? Because they are super picky and super knowlegeable about what foods and chemicals they sell (if they give you a recommendation - take it), they recognized me when I came in and I always got a smile, they have an old glass bottle Coke machine (yum on a hot day!), if I felt blue Buck always had a funny story for me. If I needed something special for the animals, Buck, Ken or John and formerly Tommy and Billy Ray, would help me get what I needed. The cash register has gotta be about 100 years old. You would be lucky indeed if Mrs. Moore is behind the register! She's the best! The coolest hand-beaded earrings and best smelling soaps I ever bought in my life were from there - neat odds and ends at Buck Moore Feed. Great prices, great advice, friendly people (In California I now pay $38.00 a bag for 40lbs of Diamond dog food - at Bucks it's about half that!) I've actually never found another place to do business that is as special as this place, any kind of business. It really is old Austin personified. Shop there five or six times, say howdy do to the folks and I have no doubt you'll see what I mean. Most customers coming in to the feed store have been doing so for decades. And there's a reason for that. A good, good reason.
