best Vietnamese food in the city!.
This place was ranked as one of the best places to eat Vietnamese food in Austin and rightfully so!
Totally off the beat and path in a small strip mall on north lamar but i can tell you this place serves up the best Bahn Mi sandwiches i have ever had. The family that runs the business is there all day and if you become friendly enough over time they will start serving you 'off the menu' items that they eat for lunch everyday. Hint: you should go later in the day, after the lunch rush if you want this kind of service.

This casual, sister-run cafe maintains its popularity with well-made Vietnamese fare and tasty cream puffs..
In Short
Since 1999, this locally owned Vietnamese café just past Research has maintained a brisk lunch business and a steady stream of cream puffs. The dining room is small with only a handful of tables and some Asian-themed décor, but service is fast and chairs are emptied quickly. The menu features simple and traditional Vietnamese standards like green papaya salad and fresh spring rolls, vermicelli noodle bowls with a variety of meats and steaming bowls of pho. More favorites are the banh mi sandwiches in freshly toasted French rolls with pickled veggies and a variety of meat fillings including grilled pork, pate and garlic butter fried shrimp.

Good Food but Overpriced.
went there for lunch with a friend. We ordered the congee (rice soup), vietnamese sandwich, rice cake with egg over it and cream puff. Overall, the food was good. The sandwich was better than what I had in Houston. It was just the right amount of sauce and meat. The congee was okay. Better than what I had at Golden Wok but it was too watery to be considered a good congee. The location is very very casual. They seem to have a regular crowd of people who come in for lunch. The price is cheap (a lot of the dishes were under $5) but I feel their food was overpriced compared to other similar places. For example, the sandwich was about $4. It should be around $1.5.

Best Vietnamese food in Austin.
My family is "mostly" from Vietnam (some of us are from US, most are from Vitenam) and we've lived in Austin for 5 years. We've eaten at almost all the Vietnamese restaurants in Austin and Tam is the best. Food is traditional and excellent, the place is CLEAN and the prices are reasonable. Try it!

Awesome authentic Vietnamese food.
I crave Vietnamese food and moving from Toronto, where good vietnamese food is around the corner, it has been tough to find equivalent places in Austin. Tam Deli & Cafe was a surprise and an absolute delight to dine at. The selection is one of the best with the most local cusines only found in the country of Vietnam. With a full list of the traditional Western Vietnamese favorites like Rice Vermicelli and Beef Noodle Soup, they also have a wide selection of appertizers beyond the simple Fried egg rolls and spring rolls. Desserts and excellent exotic fruit milkshakes are also on the menu. It's family run so expect that intimate home-style service. The place is rather small but very well kept. And the prices are very reasonable and affordable. Highly recommended for those who love Vietnamese food and tired of the usual fair offered by other restaurants.
