Still good for us. Like other reviewers, I've been a regular at Hunan's for years - since the early '80s, in fact. The place is under new management, and has been remodeled. However, our favorite waitress still remembers the items we prefer (no matter how long it's been since our last visit) and the food is still terrific. In over 25 years, I've yet to find another restaurant in Austin that can beat Hunan's for taste or value.

Just today (Sunday, February 8, 2009) we enjoyed a few selections from their new luncheon menu - a full-sized entree, and your choice of soup or egg roll. All delicious, and three of us took home leftovers enough for a hearty supper!

Death of a Great Chinese Restaurant. I used to call this restaurant my favorite, and ate there at least once per week. Then, they sold it, good grief. All the things that were good about it disappeared. One option in particular was the combination plate. It used to be just enough for one person, soup, entree and rice. Now, everything is priced ala carte, one must order enough for two. Many elderly people used to patronize this restaurant and the place was always full. Now, often there is almost no one there. This was the kind of neighborhood restaurant that was close to home and the food was good and reasonably priced. Now...I go up to the restaurants in the Chinese shopping area, the prices are the same and the service and ambiance are better. Too bad...another one bites the dust.

Too expensive, too little. I use to be able to say i recommended this resturant until a new owner took over in January. She raised the prices too high for the very little food they give. There is no comination dinner you have to buy everything seprate. You use to buy dinner for to no more than 15 buck now it 20 something dollars. DONT RECOMMEND. I recomend the one south. They prices are cheap, there food is good and it's double the food :)

Gem in Crackville still Shines!. I have been dining at this establishment since the 70's. (Okay, I'm old.) You get a ton of food and the quality is still quite good. I LOVE the twiced cook pork here. Other Chinese restaurants can't seem to match the spices nor the tenderness. The Shrimp with Walnuts is also EXCELLENT.

As others have noted, there isn't much ambiance. The waitresses are all business, although courtesy is free so it would be nice if they could show a little friendliness.......Oh well, the hostess is a sweetheart and she aims to please. My friend Barbara liked her meal very much, too and she is very picky. She had chicken with brocoli.

Great service, food!. My fiance and I have been going here for quite a while. Chinese is his fave food and this is the best to him. Portions are large, awesome eggrolls and one of the best bowls of wonton soup I have ever had. Service is quick, even at their busiest!
