Say Hi is *NOT* closed!! I was just there today. The owner says he doesn't plan to close the shop anytime soon. Go in and Say Hi! Wonderful place!
Austin's Gem.
Yes, everytime I go there, I'm truely amazed at the selections of items.
I do live outside of Austin, but I do make an point to go to this store at least twice a yr.
The owner is a very entertaining and optimistic person.., and we always have a good laugh.
I've bought various teas, to edible items to rice cookers., beautiful oriental framed pictures, and he is always so informative about the items that I buy from him. I love to shop at this lttle store.
Small Treasure. This is a jam packed little mom and pop store with a huge selection of Asian food, drink, mementos, clothes, etc. The selection of real Asian ramen noodles is amazing. The guy that owns the place is great too-- in the 10 minutes I was there last, we talked about the neighborhood, his son, UT, recipes for food, and a lot of other things I have forgotten by now. This store is part of a dying breed.
Looking toward cooking, clothing or gifts from across the continent? Then Say Hi is a must on your shopping list..
In Short
For a small store, Say Hi packs a punch--chop sticks, Thai teapots and Chinese pottery line the shelves. Aisles of exotic teas, beans, dried mushrooms and spices compete with canned lychees and tins of powdered wasabe. Paper lanterns decorate the ceiling of this family-owned shop. Chinese statues and worldly Buddhas look down from the cabinets and shelves and cloth "Mao" slippers, hats and clothing fill any extra space.
A great selection!!. This little store is completely PACKED with nifty Asian arts, crafts and food items. The variety is incredible and the prices are very resonable. Also, the owner is very outgoing and absolutely hilarious! If nothing else, it's worth going to the store just to meet him.
