What People Are Saying About The Omelettry

In Short – Black-and-white checkerboard floors, cinderblock walls and colorful vinyl tablecloths make up the simple decor. College kids and the slacker crowd dominate the clientele. The menu runs the gamut of omelets, each prepared to your liking. There's also potato-leek soup, with a thick, creamy base studded with large pieces of potatoes. Gingerbread pancakes are generously filled with fresh blueberries. Huevos rancheros are topped with a hearty salsa of tomatoes, onions and jalapenos. – – –

Editor's Tips

The Extras:
If you're watching calories or your cholesterol, try egg substitutes in your omelets for an additional 50 cents.
When to Go:
Show up early on the weekends or expect a half-hour wait for brunch.

Poor at best.

by cjacob22 at Citysearch

Ate breakfast hear for the first and last time.

The juices are not fresh and come from whole foods. (not even the fresh products but the glass jar ones from the shelf)

There is no butter, only hydrogenated oils they serve as butter.

The potatoes where old and over cooked.

Servers did not know how to refill a water glass.

I could have made a better breakfast with stuff from the carry out on the corner.

Gag Me

by Dank at Citysearch

Wow, where do I begin? I worked in the restaurant industry for 9 years, I know the deal. My parents made their fortune from restaurants and bars, so I feel like I understand both sides very well and it justifies this review ;-/

So, today we gave this place a second try. It had been about 3 years and we wanted to try it again. My decaf coffee tasted like instant coffee, my oatmeal had so much butter and brown sugar I could hardly eat it, the blue berries were those tiny shriveled gross thingys, not real fresh fruit. Not to be picky, but it gets worse: My water had like 3 floaties, there was a long, black hair wrapped around my French Toast and not to mention when I went to use the bathroom I gagged the ENTIRE time. It was so horrible. Also, the cashier was so disheveled I was just in shock to see him working in a place that served food.

I would like to clarify that the server was very apologetic and took the French Toast off the tab. The service was fine, nothing exceptional, but she was very embarrassed about the hair FT ;)

Anyway, clearly this place has its 'lifers' but if you are sensitive to hair in your food, odors, and dirty dishes, don't go. They need a make over so bad....good lord.

PS - I've never tried the pancakes, evidently they are the reason this place is still in business.

  • Pros: Longevity in Austin
  • Cons: Restaurant is dirty, bad employee hygiene, gross bathrooms

only legit american breakfast in ATX

by FU yuppie at Citysearch

Have been eating here since I was two.

Only legit diner in town, magnolia's spun off of omelettry, kerby spun off of mag's, and who the hell cares about star seed's since they stopped the smoking.

best pancakes in town, all the others copy their recipes

huge portions cheap prices

dont eat the chips and salsa

Not a corporate or a chain, the customer is only accidently right here, seriously have heard the manager throw out a awful customer saying, We HONESTLY DON'T NEED YOUR BUSINESS. ha!

Great service if you're a semi-decent person.

If you dont carry enough cash to pay for breakfast, you are probably just a shoddy attempt at a human being.

When you use a credit card, the business that accepts it has to pay 0.75-2.00 for your convenience. If you ran a joint that had a large number of tickets under 10.00 would you take cards? Most places just increase the price for other customers.

If you expect five-star service out of a place that aims for bulk service, you're a moron and you're only

complaining cause you're unfulfilled.

  • Pros: best pancakes in town, high quality soups, toys for kids
  • Cons: dont expect a corporate smile, no booze-but BYOB

25 year record

by utex1983 at Citysearch

I have been eating here since college in the early 80's. I visit Austin two or three times a year with my students and have never been disappointed with either the staff or the food. Since the cost is so reasonable, cash only should not present a problem. The gingerbread pancakes are so much better than Kerbey Lane and need only a little syrup because they are so sweet. Okay, so it is a hippie dive, but this conservative loves it and if you want the true Austin experience, this is your spot. Give it a try.

  • Pros: Large servings/Great Prices
  • Cons: Cleanliness
