Editorial Review for Taco Shack – by Brooke Townsend

In Short
The restaurant itself may not be that large, but the Taco Shack houses what are widely recognized as the biggest and best breakfast tacos in Austin. For a meal that jump starts the morning, there are dozens of breakfast taco combinations to please any palate. The crispy taco plate features homemade taco meat straight from the owners' family kitchen. There's alos carne guisada plates, enchiladas and fajita platters that receive rave reviews.

First of all, the food at this place is heinously overpriced, when there are 99 cent breakfast taco deals all over town. I get charging for like, beans, eggs, cheese, or meat when you want it extra, but these people charge 35 cents for cilantro, onions, and extra veggie items that should be free. If I get two tacos the way I like them, I'm looking at paying five bucks for two tacos which is ridiculous. Then, once you receive your tacos, you find that they have been thrown together in a most disheveled fashion, not recieving ample enough amounts of the items you've been charged extra for. The staff is extremely nonchalant and seems to care less about customer service. I'm saying, if this is your only breakfast choice, it could probably be worse, but these tacos are definitely NOT the best. I recommend Taqueria Arandas, where you get three tacos for 2.29 and they're excellent, and there are more options, the staff is super cool and friendly, and they beat Taco Shack by a mile.

Pros: convenient if you work in the 38th/Lamar district

Cons: everything else

The word "shack" is fairly apropos, but it's easily forgotten with one taste of the breakfast tacos.  See the full editorial review.
