So many local beers on draft and a great outdoor patio. A great spot to hang out with your friends after work. Often, they'll have a food truck outside as well.
A totally beloved Austin institution, the Draught House is a cross between a tailgate party and, as another tipster put it, a "Bavarian hoffbrauhaus and a Tudor-era British inn." Here, it is legal to drink one of 50 on-tap beers in the parking lot, it is expected that you'll eat dinner from one of the accompanying food trucks, and it is normal to encounter a line at the bar. But that's ok; the atmosphere is so boisterous that you'll toast your new line friends by the time you all get served.

Every Tuesday is $2.75 for most pints. This place is a local legend for beer fans.
This might be Austin's best neighborhood bar. With hundreds of beers on tap, Draught House has a great beer selection to go with a nice patio on a quiet street in Rosewood.
Bavarian Garden in West Austin. This pub is the closest you can get to a Bavarian Beir Garten in the south. Every local and regional beer, super knowledgeable staff, always packed.
mmmm beeer. THE DRAUGHT HOUSE! not the alamo draft house, but the rural-home-turned-pub on Medical Pkwy & 42nd. Best pub in the city.
Relaxed. This is a great place to sit back and have a few pints. The beer selection is great and the atmosphere is even better. Very relaxed crowd, you can bring your dog, drink in the parking lot. It's just a great place to just hang out. One of those places you can only find in Austin... Cheers
Best kept Austin secret EVER!!! Dog friendly and drink in the parking lot!.
I cannot recommend this place enough. Here's why: it's very different from anywhere else.
First off, it's a private local business, not a chain, so they get to call their own shots. Which translates to: drink beer in the PARKING LOT while sitting in the back of your car or a lawn chair. Very dog friendly. Great private location: very hard to find the first time, but there's no traffic, so you can stumble around freely. I'm not sure how this place deals with TABC and open container law...but nowhere else have I heard of being able to take your drink outside in the parking lot!! They also microbrew some of their tap beer. Nightly specials include house beer at $2.50 a pint. Every once in a while they'll have Double IPA on 2.50 special, which is a very strong beer.
Food is delicious. There are pizza options and a bowl of finger pub grub, which is an amazing mixture of pretzels and other delicious unnamed things. I've seen people bring in their own snacks and chips, so they're not strict on that. All I've gotta say is that with these great prices and such great tasting beer, make sure you have someone sober to drive you home. You will most likely get much, much drunker than you planned to. I guarantee that. This place is just THAT great.
Worst pub experience in Texas, rude bartenders.
Worst pub experience in all of Texas. Rude staff. I'm a native Texan and a proud Austinite. My friends and I went here last night following a movie to grab a drink. The second we walked through the door the bartenders, a brunette man and a blonde woman, began SCREAMING from ACROSS THE ROOM at us to show our IDs. We were a little taken aback because 1.) We are of legal Texas drinking age, members of our party were 22-28, to give you an idea and 2.) I have never in my life encountered such rudeness and hostility in Texas in a pub of all places! Needless to say, after BOTH of the bartenders began to yell at us while we were quietly talking and deciding what to order (their prices of $5 for a glass of draft were a little high by Texas standards) we decided to walk out. Instead, we went to Crown & Anchor and had an amazing experience there as usual!
After seeing so many positive reviews, I'm really shocked no one else had our experience. We honestly encountered the rudest, most impatient bartenders at the Draught House last night. And I have no idea why they were so impatient.... we were the only ones in there. My advice, don't go here unless you want to submit to being yelled by impatient staff with terrible manners. There are so many great pubs/bars in Austin and the Draughthouse is just not worth it.
Great beer selection! Excellent place to just hang with friends. I went here several weeks ago and I loved it!! They have an excellent selection of beers. You can hang outside on the bench and they have a beer garden area, also it is dog friendly which was great for me. Prices are reasonable for the beer that they have. This isn't a place you go to eat, unless you get a little tipsy and you need something to soak up the alcohol. You come here for the beer and boy oh boy is it good beer. If you want to go somewhere to hang out casually and enjoy great beer then this is the place.
read the fine print. Good beers but beware the specials: the Tuesday night $2.75 on all pints is only till 11pm. Food is nothing to write home about. Still, a nice, neighborhood pub with a good selection.
A Central Austin favorite that feels like it was designed by a muscle-bound Anglo-Saxon..
In Short
With white plaster walls, exposed wooden beams and thick oak tables and chairs, the Draught House feels like a cross between a Bavarian hoffbrauhaus and a Tudor-era British inn. Mounted coats of arms, plates and steins add to the effect. The loyal crowd is a laid-back, convivial set of solid-citizen types, mostly in their late 20s and 30s. There's no hard liquor, but there are 50 beers available on draft, including several homebrews.
Something for everyone!. I'm not really a beer drinker anymore, so was a little worried about hanging out with friends here. Luckily one of them pointed me in the direction of the ALE PEAR CIDER! That stuff is fantastic! They have a few different hard ciders, and a chocolate beer, a fruity beer, and several very light, crisp beers among their selection of heavy, dark beers. I was definitely impressed with the selection!
