What Our Expert Scouts Say

December 17, 2012

A tad expensive, but with a sizable sushi menu, plenty of delicious Chinese classics (Westernized Chinese, but delicious all the same), and incredibly sweet service, Suzi's is a welcome staple in the North Shoal Creek area. Try the Walnut Chicken (breasts rolled and sauteed in a crunchy nut layer) for a filling dinner.

Outstanding wonton soup. We go to Suzi's on a regular basis because the food is great, the service is good and the atmosphere is nice. They have the best wonton soup I've had and the Basil Garlic Shrimp is excellent.

It's also really fast - you can go in for lunch or dinner pretty much any day of the week and have a great meal in a short amount of time.

I highly recommend checking Suzi's out the next time you're craving Chinese food.

Large Chinese eatery brings in families and groups looking for an inexpensive, filling meal.. In Short
The interior is sleek, post-modern, large and pleasant. You can sit at the bar by the open kitchen, in the vinyl-covered booths, at regular tables or out at the small patio. Everywhere is the feeling of space, even when the restaurant's packed for lunch. Both carnivores and vegetarians will be satisfied by the menu. The vegetarian plates include deep-fried home-style bean curd. The meats include a sweet roast pork and a spicy kung pao chicken.

The sushi here is not very good. The sushi tasted chlorinated and the noodles we ordered were bland and very soggy. I will not be eating here again.

lousy chinese food. My girlfriend and I ordered mostly from the Chinese menu and it wasn't terrible but it was very unexciting. The Firecracker Prawns, for example, were just prawns with diced raw onion and slightly spicy bright red sweet & sour sauce. I also had a couple of pieces of sushi, which were pretty good. We might go back again to try more sushi, but we won't be going back for Chinese food.

Very Very Good. Very Very Good, exceptionally high quality food, preperation and presentation are as good as it gets in Austin. Service was also very crisp and efficient. Portion sizes were perfect and flavors were properly executed and well balanced. Also features an excellent atmosphere. An exceptionally pleasent dining experience , is somewhat more expensive than many other chinese restaurants in Austin, but well worth the extra money. A very good place to entertain a date, family, clients or out of town company.

Very "American". This food was fancy and looked pretty but wasn't very "Chinese." But it's a safe place to eat if you're not an experienced Chinese food afficionado.

MSG ALERT. I was just at Suzi's for lunch. After I paid for my lunch special takeout, the hostess told me that the food is prepared with MSG. Tips for vegetarians and the health conscious:

- Ask for no msg

- Ask for steamed rice if you like it (they automatically serve you fried if you don't specify how you like it)

- All soups are made with chicken broth, according to the hostess

Yuck. Our dinners tasted awful. My date and I actually got up and left during the main course because we just couldn't eat our food.

Fresh and Tasty. Stir-fried lunches while you wait, not ladled out of pots. Chicken with cashews is my favorite, Wonton soup best in town. Special attention for regular customers rounds out the great Suzi's exprience. Haven't tried the new sushi bar yet.

Consistency. I also went to Suzi's China in the other part of Austin since we just had too much a good time on day before to try out for lunch before living Austin; it wasn't as fancy setting but the service was still great. The cost was better and the FOOD was also CONSISTENLY great!!! My kids like this place more than the Grill, says that their orange chicken tasted better. But for me, the FOOD was good as it can be in both places.
