Good Suhi, Good Price. Have tried this place several times with friends. We all think the sushi is good quality and quantity for a reasonable price. The outside looks a bit rundown, but the inside is clean with friendly waitstaff. Miso soup and salads are good. Try the roll with white tuna and garlic sauce! Also, there are nice sunken tables (take your shoes off) with large wooden walls to separate the tables for a personal feel.

Under New Management.. Ichiban is Under new management since Dec 08. Come and Try fresh sushi... Don't let the looks of outside fool you, it looks much better inside, unique and romantic with candles and roses on each table...

really worth to try.

Good food, bad service. I had my share of sushies(?) in city of austin, considering I lived in Austin for over five years. I had been going to Ichiban years ago, but last month was the first after the owner changed (at least that's what my friend told me). If you are thinking about going to Ichiban for your next sushi cusine, I seriously encourage you to reconsider. Don't get me wrong the food was great! However it was the service that got me.. Me and my girl friend was served by this short mid-aged woman. She was OK at first, after struggling a bit at taking orders (She barely spoke any English I believe). After she brought our drinks, I tried to be friendly by asking her name, like I always do when I go to eat. But then, She completely ignored me. I was sure she ignored me because she took a look at me then walked away. I tried to understand, since she wasn't fluent in english. After some moments, I found out that her english wasn't any better than her serving skills. She didn't come to offer any refills, took the longest time to bring our food (I saw our sushi sitting on a bar for at least 10 minutes), and she didn't even get us a soy sauce. I had to actually walk up to another waitress to ask for it. I wouldn't say the restaurant was busy at all, since there were only two other tables other than us. Also our waitress was just sitting on a counter, counting money.

Ichiban's new owner needs to look for a new, younger, friendlier, and talkable waiters. With service like that there is no way I'm going back.

You won't regret it!. I took a young lady there for our first date and man what an impression. The people there were kind and curteous, and ready and willing to serve. The lighing is dim enough to be comfortable, but bright enough where you can see what you're doing to be happy. The floor seating has legless chairs so you do have something to rest your back against, and they do ask you follow tradition and take your shoes off before stepping into that area. Otherwise there are regular tables and such. The Suki Yaki (beef-stew for a rough translation) is a really excellent meal for two people to share and is cooked right at your table. (By you if you know what you're doing, but if not the waitstaff will help) The Green Tea ice cream is a perfect dessert that can only be described by it's name...no verb can capture the true context. Between the smiling staff, the interesting music, and the food...this place is awesome. Be sure to stop on the short wood bridge and look down at the massive goldfish on your way in. Good for groups, pairs and singles. But do yourself a favor, don't go alone. Share the expierence. The cost isn't cheep but it was worth it to me. Two people: One Suki Yaki (for two) one ice tea, one water, one bowl of green tea ice cream: $36 Not bad for a specialty resturant. Enjoy!

Best lunch deal in town!!!! Fresh and Fantastic!!!. I was just kinda into sushi when I first came here. Now I'm totally addicted! The restaurant inside is beautiful!..nice, private areas with deep wells under the tables in case sitting cross-legged gets uncomfortable. The sushi was fantastic, very fresh and they give you a lot of it!!! The best part is, if you go during the week, the lunch menu is an unbelievable deal! You can get a whole Rainbow Roll plus a whole California Roll plus Miso soup and Salad for 8 bucks! Tell me where else you can get that without going to some "half-price sushi night" where you have to wait in line for an hour for two pieces of Nigiri! It gets expensive at night as all sushi houses do, but man, that lunch special has me coming back two, maybe three times a week! Give this one a try and you'll be hooked!
