cheap breakfast.
Breakfast before 11am is cheap, basic but good. for other times I would stick with a burrito, tostada,or torta. If you are squeamish about chicken, don't order it. The Pollo is gristle, fat and knuckles? Also, its what I ate when I got food poisoning. Stick with a no meat but avocado tostada!
The chips and salsa are good. You have to ask for the green sauce. The service is lacking, but with a smile.
Perfect for this economy! Simple, authentic Mexican food, convenient quick service, and practically free!.
My family and I are regulars at this neighborhood "Arandas Taqueria" (3 or 4 times a week!). Obviosly we really like this place. It's a real taqueria, and unlike the much much pricier "Guero's Taco Bar", it really IS mostly tacos, so nothing fancy. Just good, fast, dependable, authentic Mexican food for hungry people who are in no mood or position to waste money. The ambience is minimal and totally casual for their mostly working-class clientele.
NOTE: if you go there and like the place and the service, for goshsakes, be generous and over-tip these people! It's not the waitstaff's fault that the prices are so low you can get full on 3 breakfast tacos and great homemade salsa for less than $3 bucks!
GROSSSS.
This resturant got me so sick, I thought I was going to die. I had a stomach virus for 3 days non stop. The food actually tasted all right but it was the after affect that mattered to me.
The END!!!
Tasty, inexpensive Mexican food and no-fuss surroundings..
In Short
To say the place is casual is an overstatement, but it all feels authentic, from the tapestries on the walls to the Spanish language you hear spoken all around you. Upon sitting, you'll be served a free basket of tortilla chips with two salsas. For breakfast, there's the three chorizo and egg tacos. There are eight burritos and a variety of tacos, tostadas and tortas. The beef fajita burrito includes beans, lettuce, tomato and avocado.
good value & good food. if you are looking for a yummy place to eat for below $3, this is definitely a must-go. Prices are almost 40% less before 11am on weekends for breakfast platters. I got there around 11:30 on a Saturday and was seated promptly. The waitress came out with the menus along with a huge bowl of tortilla chips with 2 types of homemade salsa (mmm!) I ordered migas and the food came out within 5 minutes. Portions were generous and refried beans were delicious. No complains and will definitely go again.
User review by mrriggs84. First opinion.. overrated. Salsa was OK, that's the first thing I look for is a great salsa. Beef fajita meat was chewy and not very good.
Talk about AMAZING!!!!!. I can tell you, the only thing I miss about working in Austin is Arandas. The fajitas, tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, ALL GREAT! The avacado tostada is absolutely fabulous. The wonderful mexican cheeses they use sets the flavor. For what the restaurant lacks in "flash" it MORE than makes up for in flavor and ambiance. You know when you walk into a mexican restaurant and it is full of the people of the land the food is from that it is going to be great. I make special trips into Austin just to get some Arandas to-go. Recommend to all in Austin. You may have to wait for a seat, but it is well worth the wait.
Yes!. The best part of #3 is that I've never paid more than 5 dollars (not including tip), and I've always walked out with a a stomach that's about to explode. Undoubtly, the best Mexican food value I've ever been too and quite possible in Austin. (There may be better, but I don;t know about it). While I wouldn't say that this is the best mexcian ever, it is pretty darn good and for the price you pay, who really can complain? Put this place at the top of your list of the late night muchies or fine Mexican on a budget.
it's the real deal. A no-fluff outstanding joint. And soooo cheap! They carry horchata (rice milk - try it!), pozole, breakfast tacos, and all of the meats and veggies are fresh with a homemade flavor to everything. The salsas are fab and the chips super fresh. Most of the customers are Mexican, so you know you are at the right place!
Best Mexican Food EVER. The food here is better than any mexican food I've ever had, and that pretty much includes all the places I went to in Mexico. Having a Spanish-speaker with you when you go is a definite plus. Torta Milanesa! Beef Barbacoa! Rock!
