What Our Expert Scouts Say

So the menu here is humongous, and carnivore or vegetarian, Cantonese or American, there's probably something for you. My favorites include the Beijing duck with steam buns, BBQ pork (which they do tend to run out of, so, just be aware), and snow pea leaves. "Snow pea leaves? That doesn't sound fun!" Guys, seriously -- this is one of the most popular items on the menu. Order it (you too, meat lovers), and eat your words. Er, leaves.

Best authentic Chinese in town. I am Chinese and searched forever to find good, authentic Chinese food when I got to Austin until I discovered them. Yes, the restaurant is dingy, but it's gotten a face lift lately and there have been efforts over the years to clean it up a bit. Yes, the wait can be a while and there is no comfortable waiting area, but the throngs of Chinese families eating happily there contributing to your wait - isn't that a good thing, really? So time your visit... if it's around lunch/dinnertime particularly on Fri or Sat, expect a 20-30 min wait. Yes, the service can be terrible depending on which server you have, but the food is usually brought out quickly (albeit usually not all at once).

The true reason for visiting though is the food... Here are our top 10 dishes in no particular order (bear in mind we have 2 toddlers, so nothing too crazy made this list :))...

- Won ton noodle soup

- Snow pea leaves

- Roast duck

- Char siu/BBQ pork

- Sizzling beef

- Walnut shrimp

- Sesame beef

- Fried pork chop

- Beef or combination fried flat noodle

- Combination crispy noodle

Save room if you can for the side benefit - dessert next door at Coco's :)

Bad service. We had reservation and we still had to wait 30mins. Then by the time we got our food our bill came with it. Then on top of that we had 2 adults 2 child and a 5 month old and were charged gratuity. When I asked he said your baby counted. Never knew they charge per person and you have to pay for the food as well. Our overall experience as bad. It as dirty and over crowded. Half the time they don't understand what your asking for. So we only had the table for 30 mind and basically they kicked us out.....don't eat there I will never eat there!

Very bad service. I used to like this restaurant, but the customer service has gradually gotten worse over the years, and that's a make-or-break it deal for me. When dining in, the waiter pretty much ignores you until the food is ready to be served or it's time to collect the money.

But taking out has been fine...until recently. My wife ordered snow pea leaves, combination fried rice, and sesame chicken. Because the foam boxes here are not very durable (they melt if you put something hot on it, which has happened in the past to us), we usually request a sheet of aluminum foil underneath the hot food inside the box and we have had no pushback on it. We simply do not like eating foam. Well, the manager of the store, who was the cashier, told my wife that there's nothing wrong with putting hot food on the foam and that my wife doesnt know anything and doesn't go to health class. My wife was obviously upset and left without buying the food. So much for customer service.

I recommend going to great asian restaurants with better service like Sea Dragon or T&S. I know they do a better job of keeping the customer happy.

Authentic - good food, bad service. Take from someone who knows: this is the real deal. The menu has authentic Chinese food and authentic bad Chinese restaurant service. Most people expect good service at restaurants, but trust me, most good chinese restaurants have bad service. The food is most important and they know it. From the duck to the chinese bbq pork, it's definitely worth visiting. asianaustin dot com.

Delicious!. I went to this restaurant for the first time this past Mon with a group of 4. We were seated and served very quickly. I am not an expert on real Chinese food, but I know quality, fresh food when I see it and this is it! My husband had the pork fried rice, which was fresh made with delicious bbq pork. It was not greasy at all. The same goes for the pork lo mien, which was my favorite. The pepper steak was tender and flavorful with plenty of fresh bell peppers and onions. The chicken and broccoli with crispy pan noodles came in a very mellow sauce, but still pretty good overall. The price was very reasonable. We'll definitely be back!

WAT. why do ppl make a big deal about service at an asian establishment? asian restaurants are not known for having excellent service. big deal. is it that much trouble to raise your hand to get a refill? if you dont like the service, then dont tip. STFU

Worst Service in Town!. I've been there several times and their dishes are just OK(too salty and too sweet, so American-Chinese). We went there on a Sunday evening just because we live very close and thought it would be a quick dinner. But it was so crowded we had to wait for about 10 minutes for a table. Another 10 minutes after we sat down, no waiter or waitress showed up, I had to wave the menu to a couple of waiters passing by and obviously they saw it. Still, no one came to even just offer some water or drink. Some kids on the next table were jumping up and down, two guys are two other tables use their cameras with flashes. It was so annoying we had to leave the restaurant. I briefly talked to the girl at the front and said I thank her for leading us to the table, she seems to have no problem with customer leaving and didn't even say sorry. Sure your restaurant is popular and crowded today, but we are still customers!

This is the worst experience I had in any restaurant in my whole life. I am Chinese and I love our food, but I would never go there to dine in again! Their BBQ to go is OK though.
