Austin Shoe Hospital does outstanding work – We've had several pair of shoes and boots repaired at the Austin Shoe Hospital on Balcones Woods. Everything from polishing to a full refurb has been picture perfect, done in a timely manner, returned by the time given and reasonably priced. Each time I show up, Seth remembers me, is friendly and has our shoes ready on the counter before I even walk through the door, it's great!
We even had an instance where a 10-year old pair of shoes (worn by a retail guy so you KNOW they were begging for mercy), just couldn't go through one more repair. Seth did an outstanding job of explaining the condition of the shoes, what could be done and what the result would be. The time and explanation were greatly appreciated.
Even after our upcoming move from the 78759 ZIP, we'll definitely continue doing business with Austin Shoe Hospital on Balcones Woods.
Shoesavers! – I took one of my favorite pairs of shoes to Austin Shoe Hospital to help repair the heal that had been worn down. They not only fixed the heal but shined the shoes so they look close to when I brought them home for the first time. Worth every penny! Thanks ASH :)
Poor Quality and Nothing But Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk – The heel on the back of my leather moccasin slippers was falling off. The rawhide strip had broken.
I brought both slippers to Austin Shoe Hospital on Balcones Woods. When I got them back, the repairer had punched two new holes into the rear of the slippers and threaded a strip of rawhide through the inside of each slipper. This repair fixed the back of my moccasin slippers, but the rawhide strip rubbed painfully on the back of my feet. The original slippers did not have anything threaded through the inside of the slipper.
When I brought the slippers back, all the guy there did was talk and talk and talk and talk. He said:
1. I should place the back of the slipper on a hard surface and pound it with a hammer to flatten the rawhide. First, isn?t that something Austin Shoe Repair should do? Second, it wouldn?t solve the problem because the rawhide strips would still be in there rubbing against the back of my feet.
2. I should wear band-aids on the back of my feet to protect them from the rawhide strip they added to the inside of my slippers. Or, I should insert band-aids into the inside-back of the slippers to cover the rawhide strip. I think they should just fix the slippers instead of having me try to deal with ways to work around their ?repairs.?
3. They do not repair to original specifications; they only do what they can do. This was in response to my suggestion that manufacturer ran the rawhide strip between the leather layers of the slipper so the rawhide did not rub against my foot. All I got from the guy was the nonsense about ?we can only do what we can do.? If they could not repair the slippers, maybe they should have told me instead of making a bizarre ?repair? that made them impossible to wearable.
The guy did not offer to repair the repair. He did not offer to refund my money. He just kept talking and talking and talking and talking.
Do not go here.
