Best Fajitas?.
We visited with a group of people on a Saturday night when a particular radio station was providing the music. While the music was great, the appetizers in the bar were NOT. We ordered beef fajita nachos and beef fajita quesadillas and I have to say we were quite disappointed.
The fajita meat was very tough and unpleasant. However, in all fairness, I have had the fajitas in the dining room before and they were quite good. However, shouldn't they be of the same quality as in the Bar area?
I did discretely bring it to the attention of the waitress. She did apologize, but gave no explanation. Will I be back? Not sure.
nice menu. patron glazed ribeye was great. Glad i decided to try it now i get it every time i go in. Great selection of tequilla. All in all a really good place to go for dinner that is definately different than the regular chain restaurants in this price range. I have always had good luck with the servers as well as i know it is difficult to get solid help in the service industry.
Late Night Happy Hour. From 11 until they close they have a great late night happy hour. There are $3.00 house drinks, wine, beer, and margaritas, and $5.00 Mexican martinis and Texas teas. They also have a "bar bites" menu that has extremely cheap appetizers like nachos, wings, and queso. I know it is not very healthy but for a late night craving, it is perfect.
Kids eat free on Tuesdays. The North location... where to begin.I love the fact that kids eat free on Tuesday. For every adult entree you get a kids meal that comes with a free drink and scoop of ice cream. The happy hour from 4-7 has half price appetizers and three dollar wells, margaritas, and beer. There is also a wide selection of "tequilla flights". These are awesome. You pick a flight of your choice and it has three "almost shots" of tequilla. Good tequilla. Many are around ten dollars or under. Iron Cactus is perfect for a date or time with the kids. Oh and did I mention live music Thursday,Friday, and Saturday?
Fun Trivia Night Tuesday. My cousin took me to the Iron Cactus in North Austin for my birthday. He knows that I love to play games and the trivia night was perfect! I had a cactus juice which is a strong frozen type of margarita and the cheeseburger. Both hit the spot. Then our server brought me out a chocolate mousse for my birthday. We had the best time. The food was actually really good, the drinks were strong, and the server was really nice and outgoing. I think my cousin let me win the trivia game though:)
Perfect place for a fun night out. After reading some of the reviews I felt like I had to post. The North Iron Cactus offers great specials, accommodates large parties, has good food, and tasty drinks. I go in there about once a month and have never had bad service. I do usually sit in the bar area unless I am on a date. They have several flat screen tvs and will change them to whatever game you want to watch. During games they offer two dollar lone star beer. They offer two great happy hours and after seven in the bar they have cheap bar food specials. There are also new events during the week including a trivia night, karaoke, and live music Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. There is even a ladies night every Thursday that I have been meaning to check out. If you are looking for an uptight restaurant with snooty waiters this is not the place for you. It has a nice ambiance but is also laid back. This is just a great place to go with friends, family, or a date.
Would not recommend.. The service has declined and become so unpredictable at this location, that dining here is not always enjoyable. There are too many tasty places around to risk an evening at this establishment.
Gone Totally Downhill. This used to be one of my favorite places, great food, great margaritas, great atmosphere. I no longer live in Austin and every time I come to town I used to get a group to come meet there. So we went last night and it's obviously changed and gone way downhill. First clue was the parking lot...practically empty. I thought it was just because it was cold and only a few days before Christmas. Then there's the smoking...I didn't realize this was one of the few places apparently "grandfathered" for smoking. The smell permeates throughout. Then the service...even though the place was no more than 20% full it was all we could do to get a waitress to come see us. Then the food was awful. Absolutely awful. And the menu choices in the bar....fried pickles at a Mexican restaurant? No more of the old yummy Iron Cactus quesadillas? We tried the spinach & artichoke dip - barely any spinach or artichokes in it! What a sad waste of what used to be such a great place.
