Fantastic free tour! We learned so much and the guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. Beautiful building. I'd say don't miss the opportunity to tour it and the grounds while in Austin.

Tips for Texas State Capitol

August 23, 2006

More than a century of legislators and governors have passed through the doors of this historic building.. In Short
The Texas State Capitol houses offices for the governor, secretary of state and all legislators, as well as the Senate and House chambers, a library, bookstore and cafeteria. Twenty-two acres of trees and monuments surround it. The architecture and sculptures of this ornate building, which is taller than the U.S. Capitol, can be viewed every day of the week. Free 45-minute tours are offered and include watching Senate and House proceedings during the legislative session.

Kids Love It - Great Location. Kids love stairs, huge rooms, "hiding places." A roll down the hills outside is fun. Central location perfect starting point for exploring downtown.

What A Capitol. One of the most beautiful capitol buildings th the country, if not the most beautiful. Reminds me so much of the US Capitol in Washington DC.

The pride of Texas. If you think this is a waste of taxpayer's money then you really need move to go to another state and pay their state tax rate! I love spending my sales tax money towards this building. It gives me goosebumps to see it, and I see it every morning from work! This beautiful building signifies the strength, dignity, and beauty of the state. Definitely worth a tour! Texas, love it, or leave it! We don't mind!

Signed,

A Seventh Generation Texan
