Hands Down the Best Sushi in Austin. Paul and Christina roll up some of the tastiest sushi I've ever had. My husband and I frequent Uchi also, and while both places have very tasty and fresh dishes, Uchi really skimps on the portions. Shoguns sushi servings are almost decadent in size. The only possible drawback is its stripmall location on Manchaca and Slaughter. Don't let this keep you away. You really get what you pay for, and the service is excellent.
Good little sushi place. We tried this place out three times, as it's practically right next to our house and Sushi is our favourite food. Third time is a charm. The first time was ok, the prices are high and I wasn't impressed with that. I would love a bit more selection in the sushi rolls. The service was ok. The second time we went the sushi was good, but the service was awful. I have to say the girl was new though, but we still waited a really really long time. It tends to be hot in this restaurant. They did have my favourite beer on tap however, which is now gone (dangit). The menu is very pricey. However, the sushi was really good this last time. In fact, some of the best I've had. The tuna was excellent, the salmon was great, and the tempura was light and very enjoyable. Overall we really enjoyed our last experience... until the check came. Over $50 for a couple of sushi rolls, a seaweed salad and a beer is outrageous. Great food, though. Lower the prices and you've got a real gem here.
Great little tucked away place in South Austin!.
The service was very attentive and they even have the low to the ground tables to sit at in back. They are more private.
The sushi is wonderful, the spider roll was amazing!! Seaweed salad was typical and the green tea icecream was great! Pricing was mid-range and the food was well worth it!
wonderful food!.
The tempura is amazing - lightest and least greasy i've ever had. If you like tofu, the grilled tofu is heavenly..perfect texture and wonderful flavor...i think the sushi improves constantly and is a good price. Not the cheapest place in town, but the food and the staff are outstanding. Kudos to having a female sushi chef (who is also a great conversationalist) - recommend letting her select sushi for you at the bar.
It does take a bit of 'looking' to find this place as it's off on the side of a shopping strip and the sign is small and obscured by trees - but WELL worth the effort!!
Our neighborhood sushi bar. Shogun has very good sushi, miso, tempura, noodle dishes, and terriyaki. This is a good place to come if you want to take your time and enjoy your food. The sushi takes a while, but they don't rush you either. For Austin, the prices are realtively low for quality sushi and Shogun hardly ever has a line to get a table.
Not fancy, but very good.
Neither the food nor the place is fancy. But the food is very good. And the selection is fairly wide. One of the best sushi places in town.
When I say the place is not fancy, I don't necessarily mean it in a negative way. Just that it's not fancy. It is quite clean and spacious. The tables could be a bit larger.
Only negative is that it's waaayyyyy to far South :o(
And yes, it's not cheap. Specially if you like Sushi.
