Great food- higher prices than led to believe.
Had 2 specialty rolls, that were awesome, but $15 a pc. This edamame was $4.95 the miso was $3.50 per cup. So, as much as I enjoyed the rolls (edamame was blah), i was put off by the Prices. I have other favorite sushi places i thought were expensive but they included free miso with purchase of a roll. I will go to this plae when I am south, but, I live north, so won't go out of my way.
thanks
Yummy Sushi. Shogun is one of the best sushi restaurants in Austin! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I were impressed with how nice they were to my two year old son. The food was fresh and tasted great. I highly recommend Shogun.
Best Udon and tasty Sushi.
They have the best tasting Udon broth I've ever had. I have been going here for almost 10yrs and the food quality has always been great.
They have a big selection of sushi and other cooked foods, their short ribs are pretty tasty too.
This my first restaurant review and thought it was time since they have been so solid in the food quality and friendly service.
Good food, something kinda scary though.. I like the inside of this place, staff was nice, sushi made well. One complaint, which to me is a pretty big one. Waitress put our sushi on our table and walked away. We sat there for a minute till we realized we had ordered salmon and been brought tuna. We showed this to our waitress who was very nice about taking it away, what bothered us was she simply removed the tuna, placed some salmon on the plate, and put the tuna back in their supply to use again! Thankfully, we knew it was clean since we hadn't touched it or coughed on it, but how did the waitress know this?! We were polite, and finished eating, but we knew this was the first and last time we would go here.
Excellent fresh sushi, late hours..
Great little spot in S. Austin open till 10:00.
Fresh sushi rolled by a rare female sushi chef.
She is very nice, and everything is top quality.
An unexpected strip center find--affordable, authentic Japanese fare..
In Short
Despite the uninspiring exterior of the Korean-owned Shogun, this small Southside eatery offers a solid selection of reasonably priced sushi and Japanese cuisine, as well as stir-fries and a few other generic Asian dishes. Perch on pillows in a private room in true Japanese fashion or choose a traditional table, enjoying specialties of the house including sukiyaki, tempura, teppanyaki, udon and soba. Sample sushi from the maki and hand-roll sections, offering everything from spider rolls to the Rock'N'Roll.
Great sushi in a "tucked away location".
I live in Shady Hollow-- I have been going to this little place for years. I visit many sushi restaurants and this sushi here remains one of my favorite's.
Generous servings with the sushi!
Very good food.. We tried out this restaurant for the first time tonight, and were highly impressed with the food. The sushi was fairly priced and very good while the entrees were slightly high priced, but also very good. We have lived right down the street from Shogun for 2 years now and have never stopped in before, but I can definitely say that we will be back many times in the future.
Great Everything. This is the best Sushi restaurant in Austin! The service is excellent, its family owned what more could you ask for? Me and my boyfriend are vegetarian so its hard finding a sushi restaurant that caters to us. They have a bunch of different things to chose from on the menu. From veggie tempura sushi rolls to the tofu entrees which are pretty descent size portions. They also have traditional floor seating which is nice. Simply that its awesome, and I would recommend it to vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
best In Austin. Loved this palce when I lived in Austin, now sadly in Dallas but when in Austin I stop in. Started going here in 2004 and its even better now then it was before. Down home style of sushi, right to the point, based on freshness and in your face flavors. Service can be slow but always friendly and your always greeted when you walk in and always remembered when you go back which is huge. I was quoted in Austin magazine saying this is my favorite restaurant in Austin and it still is.
