This gym is great! I actually took the boxing class through UT-Informal classes. I was freaked out at first because I read these reviews, but let me tell ya, I'm glad I took this class. keep in mind, I'm a 23 year old girl who has never boxed in her life! You work you butt off, literally! There were about 30 minutes of warm-ups, 30 minutes of intense core/abs workout, and an additional 30 minutes of hands-on boxing training. Some days we did "shadow boxing" where you work on your stance and technique and have the instructors come by one-by-one and gives you tips/pointers/suggestions and other days we get to use what we learned on the bags. Richard Lord is also awesome! He is there every class and is willing to give advice. I was at the speed-bag and was having trouble; he came up and actually stood there with me bunching the bag with me to help me get the hang of it! You feel like you want to quit about 17 times during your hour and a half work out with no a/c, but once you?re done you feel invincible. You?re like ?yeah, I just did that!? It makes you feel really good, both physically and mentally. Bottom line, this is not for sissies, it's for people who want to work hard and get their butt in shape! I actually am sad the days that I don't get to box!

If you are an established pro fighter, then I'm sure Richard Lord's gym is wonderful, but as someone who wanted to learn to box, I was pushed aside and given little or no attention. If you want to learn to box, I'd look elsewhere, and particularly for a smaller gym where you can get 1-on-1 attention without having to pay an arm and leg. Ann Wolfe's gym has a great kids program, and if you just want to get in shape or learn to box, the Harmon Street Gym (rigt behind Wolfe's), is a great value.
