Editorial Review for Truluck's – by Susan Kirr
In Short
Occupying a renovated warehouse, Truluck's art-deco interior includes dark paneling, cozy booths, warm lighting, curved chandeliers and potted palms. Even on a Sunday night, the bar draws a crowd, with 100 wines available by the glass and 140 by the bottle. Jalapeno salmon and hot-and-crunchy trout entices. Tuna, encrusted with black-and-white sesame seeds, is pan-seared and ruby red inside. It sits on a bed of Parmesan mashed potatoes, while squiggles of wasabi.

Our anticipation far exceeded the experience. Extremely loud music, totally inappropriate for dining made it dificult to hear our server, who was excellent, very gracious. The room was so dark we were furnished flashlights to read the menu. The crab cake was OK, but a lot more expensive and not as good as several other Austin seafood restaurants. Their dinner of stone crab was the most disappointing - overcooked and flavorless. Nice dessert and coffee. Never again.
Pros: Highly trained server, very gracious
Cons: below average food at high prices

Save yourself from the overpriced, noisy atmosphere. While the service was good and the quality of the seafood acceptable, the uninspired chef's concoctions left quite a bit to be desired. I tried several of my companion's dishes and all were so loaded up with sugar that if there wasn't seafood on the plate, I would have been sure that we ordered off of the dessert menu. If you MUST go here, stick with the bread.
