To The Whiners. Yes, you're right, it might be a bad idea to play some Snoop Dog when you're in a room full of hicks listening to country music all night. Just like it might be a bad idea to play some Waylon Jennings on the juke box in a club full of black people who have been listening to rap for the evening. Be aware of your surroundings.... It's really that simple. The place is a solid DIVE bar, great for people watching, shuffle board, pool, or a conversation. The patrons are rough looking, the atmosphere is circa 1983, and most people are genuinely nice.

aka Hickville. Getting together with friends after work. We thought it was OK. We could bring our own bottle and buy the set up there, cheap beer , pool, shuffle puck board. Juke box was digital all types of music available. Downside, the womens restroom is not private. Open stalls with no doors or curtains. Not a crowded bar. The reason is its only a hang out for people who listen to country. Even though the juke box has a wide variety available. Your not able to listen to anything but counrty or you will get yelled at by the regulars.Per the REGULARS there. "This is Hickville" So and everyone else is not allowed. I do not recommend it to anyone.

I had a bad experience there. I am not revisting this lounge. And telling all my friends not to.

hicktown...flashback to segregation.. Well, the evening started out great. Myself and a couple girls from work bought a bottle and a deck of cards and headed on over to the poodle dog lounge. The jukebox was amazing...digital...and had all different types of music. Considering all different types of music was available, I assumed all different types of music was acceptable to play. We sat there for several hours; some songs we liked, some songs we didn't but we were having a good time playing cards and socializing. We decided to play some tunes...a few hip-hop, a few country, a few rock etc...When snoop-dogg's "gin and juice" came on (a classic bar song) the table behind us came unglued. There were about 8 of them, 4 guys (middle age), and 4 women (early 30's), and they started making racial remarks...ie who played the coon music?, the "n" word flew around several times, one drunken toothless man even thought it would be hilarious to dance around like a monkey. I am white, and so is one of the other girls I was with, and the other girl is hispanic. Myself and the other white girl are married to black men, and the hispanic girl is married to a hispanic man. We are very diverse in the music we listen too, and the people we associate with as friends. The whole bar was involved in the "coon music" discussion, and I would have loved to knock the last few teeth out of the mouths of the 8 people behind us, but decided it would be best to just leave. We will never ever ever be back in there and if you have class, and all of your teeth i suggest you don't either.

P.S. if you are associated with the poodle dog...why would you make music available in your jukebox that you don't really want played?

Don't be fooled by the name: There's nothing cute or frilly about this bar.. In Short
It may sound like a sewing circle and look like a strip club, but the Poodle Dog Lounge's low cinderblock confines contain all the trappings of a classic roadhouse. The long bar is lined with high-backed stools for a the mixture of middle-aged blue collar guys and long-time locals. The brighter back room, filled with several pool tables, attracts a bit more diverse crowd encompassing square-jawed pool sharks and a few 20- and 30-something hipsters.

Shuffle Puck and CockRoaches!. I had a great time at this bar. Hanging out with the locals, drinking cheap beer out of straws, playing shuffle puck, listening to live music. The only downside is the cockroaches hanging out in the bathroom. Kinda grossed me out, but what do you want for a dive bar?

live music tue-sun. If you're looking for a great place to hang out at by yourself or with a group of friends, this is the place to be. The "Cheers" of Austin Texas, you can sit back, relax and enjoy one of your favorite demostic or imported ice cold beer as one of many local bands play a variety of different music. With bands like Adrian and the Sickness, Pitchfork, Echoset,Texacution, Sunny Sweeny, and Fat Dog, you're bound to find the type of music you like. So, next time someone asks you to go out to hear a band, why not give the Poodle Dog Lounge on Burnet a try. You'll like what you see and you'll appretiate the fun atmosphere that you'll find here.

Not scary. This place has a reputation for being a bit scary, but I always feel welcomed when I go here. The people are nice and as long as you don't start talking about how great John Kerry is, you should be fine.
