In Short – This no-frills hamburger joint opened on Congress in 1976 and now has several locations. Creaky hardwood floors and big wooden chairs make up a causal environment where buddies relax with suds and grub. Old photographs and signs decorate the walls, reminding you of the days of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Nelson. Everything is made to order. Aside from the famous burgers and fries, regulars crave the Texas Philly sandwich and queso chopped steak.
Cool place, but disappointing food/service

The nurse and I stopped by the Southpark Meadows Waterloo location shortly after noon today. It took about four minutes before anyone noticed we were standing there, waqiting to be seated, but the nurse met some kids she knew from working as a school nurse, so time went by quickly. We were seated, and our waitress gave us our menus, then drinks, in a timely manner. The place was maybe 65% full. After ordering our meals (sirloin tacos for her, Kobe burger for me) we waited. And waited. And waited 30 minutes before I flagged our waitress down and asked her if we were going to get to eat. We got an "I said we were busy", and she went to check on our meal. She came back, withour food, and told me that "they were finishing your burger", and that she hoped the people outside "don't see me bringing you your food first."
All I can say, honey, and I hope you read this, is: I hope their food was hot, because mine wasn't.
It would have been a good burger if she hadn't have lied to me. My nurse's food, according to her, was fine. Too bad I cannot in good faith recommend Waterloo at Southpark Meadows. Especially when the hired help lies to me. And honey, you're lucky I didn't have a quarter on me, because you would have gotten a 4-cent tip instead of the 79 cents the nurse gave you.
- Pros: Cool atmosphere
- Cons: Poor service, lukewarm food, dishonest staff
Good food...shame about the waitstaff.

I went to the Southpark Meadows location during happy hour for drinks and dinner. I love the veggie sandwich. The person I was with and I ordered a couple of the coctails that are discounted for happy hour. Both were BAD, BAD, BAD. But we didn't them send back. Just chalked it up to lesson learned and ordered beer the next round. Got the bill and noticed we were charged twice the amount advertised in the menu for one of the bad drinks. We pointed this out to the waitress who replied blankly to us that we had ordered the large. Huh? We were pointing to the happy hour menu when ordering and didn't even know there was a large. We told her we hadn't asked for a large and didn't even know there was one, but it seemed so clearly to be something she had done intentionally (although I have no way of knowing). I call shenanigans. And stupid shenanigans at that because we just subtracted the price difference from her tip. It was really obnoxious behavior though, especially considering the drinks were not that palatable. The experience really soured me on this place.
- Pros: Great veggie sandwich and tatertots
- Cons: waitstaff shenanigans and bad mixed drinks
bad chili

I have enjoyed many a breakfast at the Waterloo Ice on Burnet Rd as it is near my office. The other day I noticed on the Waterloo sign "try our chili". What a mistake! Has the manager tried it lately. He or she needs to. I would be happy to drop off a recipe cause your chili is terrible.
