Editorial Review for The Driskill Bar – by John T. Davis
In Short
Lean against the carousel-shaped bar and it's as if you've stepped back in time to an era of cattle barons, cigar-puffing politicos and oil-patch wildcatters. Completing the theme are lots of dark wood, mounted Longhorn heads, cowhide couches, a pressed-tin ceiling, Western-themed paintings and bronzes, and a carpet woven with famous cattle brands. Topping it all off is a huge, Tiffany-style stained-glass dome in the center of the room.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasThe Driskill Hotel is an ideal spot for wedding receptions, political victory parties and romantic weekend getaways.
Fun FactThe famous and notorious, from Lyndon B. Johnson to Bob Dylan, have swept through the bar on the way to their various rendezvous. And the room still seems to reverberate from their passing.

Some work friends and I have found this to be a great alternative to sitting in traffic. A little upscale and possibly snotty, but safe, clean, comfortable and not too loud unless you get close to the piano when someone is playing background elevator tunes. A good place to be in a bar scene, without going into a bar...kind of.

I love Texas, don't get me wrong, but this place is just too over the top for me. There are too many Texas decorations, including some iron statues that I can't really figure out. The crowd is overly subdued also, and I just never feel comfortable there.
