In Short – A funky lime green exterior splattered with colorful images and a hodgepodge of outdoor furniture catches the eyes of passersby unfamiliar with the area. Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse is the neighborhood nexus, the daily starting and ending point for many laid-back regulars. Their menu is strictly vegetarian with many dishes vegan-friendly if desired. An all-day breakfast menu offers favorites like the veggie-stuffed Bouldin House omelet and homey Aaric's baked oatmeal with apples and cinnamon.

i love this place!

by thewiz

excellent food! fast courtious staff who always gets the order right. it reminds me of how austin used to be... hopefully the gross condo going up next door doesnt change the crowd or atmosphere of the place. its like the original spider house but with staying power. never change and keep up the good work guys.

p.s.- only place in town with a home made veggie burger and it is AMAZING.

  • Pros: great menu, atmosphere, parking, staff, on and on...
  • Cons: none

Second-hand smoke is disgusting; aggressive dogs need to leave; customers wonder if wi-fi is turned off to free up tables?

by the9962

To the Bouldin Creek Owners/Mgmt.: I mentioned these two situations to an employee today (Mon., Sept. 15, 2008). 1) Smoking. I know nothing can be done about the smoke coming from the other side of the building when the wind's coming from that direction, but please do something about smokers who stand not five feet outside the back porch door. I know they think they're being considerate by stepping outside, but the smoke comes right back in the screens, across all of us. Same with the front door. If there's no smoking within 15 feet of entrances, why is there a large ashtray right next to the front door? Why not move it 15 feet away? Bouldin Creek is one of my favorites, but I won't spend money there and I'll tell friends to avoid the place if the smoke problem is not fixed. Situation 2) Aggressive dog. I showed up today at 11:45 a.m. with my non-aggressive dog, and I wanted to sit on the front "jail" porch, but there was a man there with his dog, and the man told me his dog was aggressive and didn't like other dogs. Yes, I know I should have told the man, "Your aggressive dog is not my problem," alerted the manager, and sat on the porch anyway, but there was plenty of room on the back porch and his dog was relentless (growling and snapping at my dog), so after making sure dogs are allowed on the back porch, I took the easy way out and sat back there. An easy fix: This could be added to the "dogs must be on leashes" signs: "No aggressive dogs allowed. If your dog becomes aggressive, it must be removed from the premises." As I said, I brought these situations to an employee's attention. If the problems are fixed, I'll raise the two-star rating I gave. Especially if the management teaches the staff how to keep the wi-fi working. (One customer told me employees act clueless when asked about it. Constant loss of wi-fi makes folks wonder if it's intentional...) This is 2008. At least one staffer needs to know how to work the wi-fi, or perhaps a wi-fi upgrade is in order.

  • Pros: Great vegan food, relaxed "people-watching" place
  • Cons: Cigarette smoke, an encounter with an aggressive dog, wi-fi frequently "disappears"

Best tofu scramble in town!

by RobotsInBoxes

I absolutely love this place! The staff is awesome, the food is great, and the atmosphere is really welcoming and community oriented. It's like going to a friend's house for a dinner party.

The tofu scramble here is like nothing else in town. It is stir fried with nutritional yeast and spices - yummy! It is a bonus substituted on any egg dish - especially the Garden!

The wait for food can extend up to 30 minutes or more - especially on weekend brunch - but definitely worth the wait. You don't have to wait to be seated here, you just order and sit, so you really aren't waiting any longer for the food here - it balances out. And besides, when you see the staff busting their *ss they way they do, you know they are doing all they can to get everyone's food out as soon as they are able.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, delicious veggie food, dog friendly, community oriented
  • Cons: parking
