What People Are Saying About Mother Egan's Irish Pub

In Short – County Meath natives John O'Brien and Mick Morris recreated an authentic Irish neighborhood experience. It's named after Morris' grandmother, who took care of her village's children in the early 1900s. Away from the bar bustle of Sixth and Fourth streets, this relaxed Irish pub attracts an older professional crowd. A full menu has Irish favorites like corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie and fish and chips. The bar is stocked with 16 drafts and bottled brews.
Just a note on being LGBT friendly

Tried posting this as a comment to the discrimination review, but it was a little wordy. So, here it is as a separate review for all to enjoy.
First off, I know quite a few lesbian friends and none of them go into the same stall together. I even asked them. One of them reminded me that the ladies can't use the same toilet at the same time like the men, if you know what I mean.
Y'all were having a nice date, you had a few drinks and you hooked up in the stall. I'm not even going to pretend I haven't done the same thing so I'm not judging. HOWEVER, they could have called the cops on you and THEY probably would have put you in jail for the night for PI.
I've been going to Mother Egan's for YEARS. I've been on first dates there and I've seen first dates there, both straight and LGBT. No one judges and I've never once felt uncomfortable or unwanted (Ward aside, but that wasn't because I'm gay). Will, Grant and just about everyone who has ever worked there learned some really nasty things as a result of conversations I've had there. They never even asked me to keep it down when I was getting really loud one time talking about a show I wanted to do about felch*ng.
If you felt soo wronged, why didn't you stop payment on the charge?
The progression of civil rights? You're sh*tting me, right?
- Pros: good drinks, good food
- Cons: Ward
Discrimination

I am writing and I hope everyone will take the time to read this. I am a 23 year old honors college student who happens to be a lesbian. After watching the bats on Congress Bridge with my girlfriend, we were looking for a cool, chill place to get some food and have a few drinks. We walked into Mother Egan's, never having been there. After eating and having a few drinks, I asked the waitress to please close my tab. She brought me my tab, whic was $57.00 and chage. I put my card in the slot and waited for her to come back for it. After she did not come back for some time, I decided I had to go to the bathroom. My girlfriend did as well. We took the card back and walked to the bathroom together and went in the same stall. This is a common occurrence among women. Girls go into the same stall all the time. While we were in there, the manager came in and said, "Ya'll have 5 minutes to finish up." We were confused. When we walked out of the bathroom, he handed us a new ticket with an additional charge added onto it. It said in all capital letters F*CKING IN THE GIRLS BATHROOM $25.00. This is an absolutely ludicrous charge, and when we inquired about it our waitress said, referring to me, "She looks like a man so we could get into a lot of trouble for that." This remark and the charge is absolutely discriminatory. Based on the way I look, I was treated unfairly. Had it been two girls wearing dresses going into the bathroom, there would have been no such treatment. Please stay away from Mother Egan's Irish Pub. It is a toxic restaurant for the progression of civil rights. Thank you.

Best Irish Pub In Austin
by ErinGoBraugh at Citysearch
I have been a regular at ME for about 5 years. I am Irish and have been to the home country several times.
ME is as close to a real Irish, neighborhood pub as Austin has.
Will, Ward and Grant all do a fabulous job of knowing your name, your drink and provide great service with a earnest touch.
Come as you are and you will have a great time.
- Pros: As close to Ireland in Austin as you can get...
- Cons: When its crowded, a little more AC might be nice
