Editorial Review for Starlite – by Susan Kirr
In Short
Although it started in a little house on 34th Street, Starlite has a similar vibe to the other elegant restaurants in the area: brick walls, bold carpet, dark wood chairs, and linen tablecloths. A trendy, party crowd comes before the bars or makes an evening of it. Favorites include a Mirin-glazed duck breast paired with a delicate stack of chickpea pancakes. A homemade graham cracker crust holds an unbelievably rich chocolate creme brulee.

I took my daughter out to eat on a Saturday night, but we didn't have to wait very long for our table because she had made a reservation. It was disappointing to be seated in the back room at one of those tiny two-people tables pushed up against the wall. The fact that I could see one man sitting in the main dining room at a big fat four-top all by himself for a whole meal made me wonder if he had better connections than I do. Plus, he was almost the only thing I could see from my vantage point, but whatev. Our server was helpful and attentive. The manager was nice and made sure that we got the exact kind of wine that we wanted. We did drinks, apps, entrees, wine, and yes even dessert....hey it was her birthday dinner. If I go back, I will DEF request to be in the main dining area. It's a beautiful place...from what I could see.

My wife and I were celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Starlite last week. We had been to their old location on 34th street, but we don't go downtown a lot. The new location is so elegant, with the wood planks above the bar and the chandelier in the dining room. We called ahead and asked for an intimate table, and the manager recommended the upstairs lounge. It was just what we wanted for a nice, quiet dinner. They have another bar up there with couches to relax and enjoy an after dinner drink. Now, the food. For starters, we tried the risotto, which is one of the best in town. After that, the warm spinach salad, which I have to say thankfully hasn't changed since the old location. The main course we tried the Striped Bass, recommended by the waiter and the Beef Tenderloin, which rivals any steakhouse around here. The dessert we tried was a flourless chocolate cake that melted in your mouth. I can see why they moved up on the top ten list. Our dinner was exactly what we were looking for, and we are going back, not just for a special occasion. You will love it as well.
