Sadly it's gone. Sadly, I pulled into my favorite Mexican restaurant and it is now gone. I had been warned by the owner, Carmen, that she might be selling, but still couldn't believe it was over. This restaurant (including Carmen and family) will be sorely missed.
SoCo restaurant offers Interior Mexican cuisine with a kick..
In Short
This unpretentious little restaurant has a simple, modest interior with mostly four-top tables. But the walls painted audaciously in shades of orange, yellow, blue and green lend the space vivacity. It's a neighborhood spot with an ambitious menu that draws all Austinites. Choose from an abundant array of appetizers, among them jalapeno rellenos cooled by a cream cheese filling. Entrees range from tacos and tostadas to house specialties that favor interior Mexican cuisine.
Best Mexican Food in ATX. This was the first place that I ate when I moved to Austin and I still cannot get enough of it. Their enchiladas and queso as well as the tortilla soup is to die for. The service is great, and the prices are just right. Be sure to stop by this lil' hole in the wall for the best mexican fare that you will eat in Travis County
NOT RECOMMENDED. Again, the food is being presented as authentic . The ingredients and flavors are not truly the real mexican cuisine. The margaritas are horrible and the prices very steep. The service is OK depending on who is working.
Great Fish!. The restaurant owner, Carmen Sims, took very good care of us. There is a fish dish on the menu that has an achiote sauce that is out of this world. It reminds me of fish I had in Cozumel. It has a Yacatan influence. In fact, this is where we go every time to cure our fish cravings. The fajitas are the leanest in town and the tortillas are hand made. This is definitely authentic mexican food.
Individual Attention. Owner Carmen Sims provides a wonderfully authentic experience for her customers. The service is personal and warm. Every consumable boasts handmade perfection and the proprietor's caring stamp of approval. I recommend the shaved-ice margaritas (not squirted indifferently from a machine) and dynamite chile con queso.
pollo pepe rocks.
Excellent pollo pepe and good milanesas. This place is all around good. A bit more expensive than other Mexican restaurants, but worth it.
Depending on the waitress, I have had my order misunderstood.
Rock Solid.. A fun, tasty, little Mexican joint. The food is definately above average. And prices for the most part reflect that. Don't be fooled by the strip mall location.
