Editorial Review for Austin – by Dawn Pomento
The Background
Many San Antonians went to school there or have some other tangible connection to Austin. And many other San Antonians resent the pull of our hipper, younger neighbor to the north. But as San Antonio expands in that direction, the distance between the two cities becomes negligible on many levels.
The Experience
Though locals are loyal to their city, there are things that happen in Austin that just don't happen in San Antonio. That's what drives us to make the trek along Interstate 35, despite the miserable traffic. For music lovers searching for something in between local acts and big stadium shows, Austin is the clear alternative. And as long as San Antonio doesn't have art-house cinemas, a vital club-DJ scene, more ethnic/healthy restaurant choices or a street like South Congress Avenue with funky boutiques, we'll continue to make the 90-minute drive north.
