A tradition among Austin's loyal Tex-Mex lovers. – In Short
Matt's has a long history of serving the rich and famous, but the reason the restaurant is an Austin institution is that it caters to a timeless, fadless clientele: families. This satellite location serves many of the same favorites that have been on the menu at the original South Austin location since 1952. The Bob Armstrong dip is a combination of cheese, guacamole and meat. The fajitas are piled with sizzling veggies and meats.
service is slow , very slow food is decent smoking is allowed etc
Not as good as the original – I tried the fajitas tacos during a wait and was very disappointed. Matt's is among my favorites, but the airport location isn't the same. The fajitas had spicy shredded beef, rather than the lovely marinated beef. The queso cost $4.50 and came with crunched up chips. Also, they put queso in everything; fajitas (I'm not kidding), enchiladas (in addition to the shredded cheese) I love that the restaurants in the airport are local, but not if they don't properly represent the wonderful flavors of the original location.
