Editorial Review for Austin Folk House – by Sandra Beckmeier

In Short
This historic gem is nestled within the West Campus neighborhood, minutes from downtown, within walking distance to shopping, dining, entertainment and fine art centers. Guests can enjoy the privacy of a huge front porch and charming parlor featuring the occasional folk performers. A collection of Southern folk paintings line the nine spacious rooms. Antique furnishings accent traditional English flair. Guests will find a common area kitchen with a laundry room. Baths include plush towels and fluffy robes.

We LOVED The Austin Folk House. It was like staying at an exclusive art gallery with the all the comforts of a high end hotel. The rooms are delightful and we loved the extras--new mattresses, fluffy towels and even shower gel! The place was great but what could beat getting a great cup of coffee and going to sit on the porch on a beautiful spring morning. The breakfasts we enjoyed were some of the best ever--especially the raspberry French toast...Yum.

I loved each of my two stays at the Austin Folk House. The rooms are elegant and luxurious and the entire B & B is full of extraordinary art from the owner's private family folk art collection. In fact, the place is a lot like an art gallery in its' rich and inviting display of paintings, sculpture and objects of art. The bathrooms are full of great products and all the amenities of a luxury hotel. And, breakfast is outstanding...I'd love to have some of Sylvia's recipes! I will definitely return for more visits and each time plan to stay in a different fabulously-appointed, art-filled room.

Pros: art, luxury, breakfast
