Editorial Review for The Capital Grille – by Holly Hickman

The Scene
The vibe is formal, but not pretentious. Tall oil portraits hang above upholstered booths and brass fixtures. Other walls are a taxidermist's dream; a large bronzed eagle separates the kitchen from diners at mahogany tables, and clocks above the kitchen note the times in London, New York and other cities.

The Food
The food is flawless, whether it be a simple tomato and sweet onion salad or filet mignon. Several chef favorites were added in 2005, including Kona crusted dry aged sirloin with caramelized shallot butter, porcini rub delmonico with eight-year aged balsamic and more. The filet mignon Oscar is superbly tender and juicy, due to a two-week in-house dry aging process. It showcases roasted asparagus spears and a host of tender, sweet crabmeat. Seared salmon is dusted with mustard seed and flanked by crisp green beans and spaetzle pasta. Superb sides include roasted seasonal mushrooms and deeply browned and salted potato slices.

Our party of four had a marvelous meal at The Capital Grille in Dallas. Exquisite setting, attentive service and fabulous food in surprisingly enormous portions. This was our first visit to The Capital Grille and it was everything we hoped it would be. It's our new favorite spot in Dallas for fine dining.

Pros: Beautiful, clubby dining room; attentive service; huge portions.
