Formerly Laura's Bluebonnet Kitchen, the Austin Diner has kept much of Laura's decorative charm, including the cool '50s dinette tables and chairs, retro appliances, and round porthole windows. Casual yet funky, the diner affords a delicious, inexpensive breakfast to the slacker crowd that stumbles in each morning. Jake's pancakes are whipped up with cottage cheese, making them fluffy and moist. The vegetable plate features a trio of chunky mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas and lima beans.

My daughter and I went to the diner on Monday, the 5th of January at around 10am. Our server, Elisabeth was great. That was the only great part. The window sill of the booth we were sitting in was full of dead flies and dust. The entry to the bathroom was filthy. I ordered huevos rancheros. I have NEVER sent a plate of food back but the ranchero sauce was so salty I could not eat more that two bites. Elizabeth took it back a brought be migas which were good, but different than they used to be. New cook? New management? I like the old better. I hope our next visit is more successful or it will be our last.

I went here for lunch on a week day - they were not super crowded, but it still took our server a long time to get to us. I had the special of the day - meat loaf... it was pretty boring and semi-tasteless. My friend had a salad and was not impressed - it didn't seem fresh. We were not impressed and won't be going back.

PEOPLE FREINDLY. THE ENVIROMENT WAS NEATLY SET UP LIKE AN OLE' FASHON KITCHEN. IT WAS A UNIQUE IDEA ...THEY ALSO HAVE WIFI NICE TOUCH .. BREAKFAST WAS GREAT!!!
