Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Authentic barbecue is the specialty at this eatery featuring sausages, briskets and more.
OMG, A TASTE OF HEAVEN.
This has got to be one of the top three bbq's I have ever had.....and I've had a lot.
I sampled the brisket and the sausages. The brisket ranks a 9 out of 10, just slightly salty.
The sausage was a perfect 10 out of 10. Juicy, flavorful...absolutely wonderful. I'm already planning my next trip down to Austin so that I have an excuse to go to Lockhart.
I would HIGHLY recommend this place to all family and friends, and I'm glad I don't live closer or I'm sure I would weight over 500lbs.......
Best BBQ in Texas. Go here for some great barbecue in an authentic, down-home setting. The ribs here are some of the best I've ever tasted--same for the brisket and sausage. Go here early if you want some prime rib, though: Each time I've come here they were out of it. Sauce and sides are now available, but you still can't get forks.
BBQ Classic. I love Smitty's. The ambiance is great if you want to invite out of state guests to have a unique experience.
Great ribs!. No sauce needed, tender, fatty, and smoky ribs! Possibly the best I've ever had. I've heard good things about Smitty's brisket but it may have been an off day when we went, because the brisket was rather dry. Sausage was loose and smokey and the casing was crisp, but could've used a bit of seasoning. Sweet tea was a good companion to wash all the meat down with.
On my top ten list..
Walking into Smitty's is a treat in itself. Wow, what a place. The ambiance of the entryway is terrific. All old brick and wood. Step up to the old bbq and place an order. The dining area, however, was a let down. Sort of 50's diner style.
But the food is what we're here for and they do it right. Just the right amount of seasoning. Know why they don't have sauce...cause they don't need it. Know why the meat is so moist...it's the fat and the fat is where the flavor is. Don't come here on a diet. Ribs were great. Brisket was very moist (extra fatty) and the sausages are to die for. Wish I could comment on the prime rib, but they got a late start cooking it and I couldn't wait another hour. But I'll be back.
