Best refried beans!. Man... This place got the best refried beans ever! I must say that I'm not a big fan of refried beans or any beans of that sort. That all changed after I had their refried beans! I ordered their Arre burrito which came in a decent size (read: smaller than Chipotle/Freebirds burrito), rice and refried beans. Even after a workout, it filled me up pretty good. I do agree with other reviewers here that their salsa can be (much) improved. But then, given their refried beans, they got my vote! Their chips are not as greasy as those you got from Chuy's. So, I'm willing to sacrifice the taste for a little healthier food. I would definitely go back there again. Next time, I will try their breakfast to see what other people were really saying. Oh yeah, they now (not before?) open for dinner until 8PM. I was there at 7PM on a Friday night and it was completely empty! I know the economy is bad. But, come on, people. You can spare $8 for a decent dinner on a Friday night! :)

Vasquez has good down home Mexican food, just like my (of Mexican origin) grandma!. I call it like I see it. And as I see it, this place rocks for breakfast tacos. You don't really even notice the restaurant at first, second or even third passing because it has a sort of a mechanic shop's looking front, and parking is horrible, however, there always seems to be at least one parking spot for us. Even if you have to park up the street a bit. Anyway, the potato and egg breakfast tacos ROCK!!!! Just like grandmas, the tortillas are definitely not homemade, but that would push my rating up to 5 stars if they were. I love their ranchero sauce (tomatoes, onions, green chilis...mmm mmm). Now their salsa that they serve with corn tortilla chips could use some improvement, but really it's the tacos that are most important during your first meal of the day. I've had the migas which are VERY good but could always use a little more on the plate. I have not had the enchiladas for lunch, but I am very eager to try them because breakfast is so good. Vasquez' refried beans are about the best I've had in Austin! Chuy's could use some help from these folks in their refried beans dept. Love ya, Chuys. The interior of Vasquez is minimal. Just some tables and chairs (a few small booths) in a small room, however, the caricatures drawn on their windows always appear to have a lot of work put into them and make me smile. Including the "angry burro". Try Vasquez, I believe there is one opening up in the Lake Creek area near the Drafthouse. Those digs may be a little more modern and cozy. My first food review ever, and what a blast it was! Cheers!

Great Food!!. I grew up in Michigan, so even the mediocore Mexican or Tex-Mex food here in Ausitn tastes great. However, these guys make really, really great food.

I started out just getting breakfeast tacos, because they are right near my office. However, I noticed they had a good looking menu for lunch too, so I tried them one day. Now I eat there two or even three times a week.

So far I have not found a dish that I haven't liked, I am trying to sample their whole menu, before settling into a favorite.

Had the fajitas today, service was quick, food was better than most sit down mexican resteraunts, and I had leftovers for later.

All in all great place, and has very reasonable prices. Just remember to get there before they close (3pm at the time of this writing is the latest they are open).

True Mexican Cocina. This is the best breakfast/lunch joint around! I recommend the Chorizo & Egg Omelet Plate for the most authentic South of the Border food available. On weekends the big bowls of Menudo are like Abuela makes. If you're interested but unsure, ask for a little taste. The staff is willing to introduce you to new taste sensations if you're willing to be courteous and taste the culture.
