Great for seeing Imax films, but ill equiped to deal with the public/large crowds.
We've been to see Harry Potter and enjoyed ourselves. We realized though they have a make shift concession stand andaren't like a regular theater.
So we decided to go this weekend and see Batman. Rule number 1- buy your tickerts online. We did not and nowhere on their site, on their door, at the parking that cost $8 did it say sold out all shows. We get in line, which they moved us twice back and forth in and were there for 10 minutes (they are super slow) before someone asked if the show was sold out. After several I think so, they said yes and 1/2 the line left.
IMAX, train your people. I realize they may be volunteers for the museum but if you are going to run first run major films have some consideration for your customers.
We left, did not get out money back for 15 minutes of parking and am sure we won't be back soon.
Not worth $7. Beautiful building, and the Imax is nice, but do not expect to find Texas history the way you learned it in school, or expect to learn anything new. There is definately a REVISED history told here with a slant.
Worst IMAX Theater in Texas. You would think, especially with their proximity to UT, that this IMAX would balance the Texas educational presentations with popular mainstream movies. But unfortunately Austinites still have to drive to San Antonio or Houston in order to see the major marketed and anticipated IMAX movies. Sad for a city this size. An e-mail response from the Bullock IMAX said they can't arrange for the mainstream movies because they have to guarantee a certain number of showings, etc. Odd, they still get a few big regular movies, but never anything to violent. They censor anything too fun for fun's sake.
Original IMAX films and occasionally Hollywood blockbusters are shown on this six-story screen located adjacent to the Story of Texas Museum..
In Short
Families, tourists, university students and other moviegoers watch original, larger-than-life IMAX films at this Texas-sized movie theater. A variety of films, typically shorter than an hour, rotate through the theater each day and highlight places, animals, history and nature. New pictures debut regularly and join the custom-made host film Texas: The Big Picture. Select specially made films are shown in 3-D, sometimes including specially formatted Hollywood family films.
Love Imax But Selection Sucks. Imax is always the way to watch movies...too bad the Bob Bullock imax doesnt get a current selection of newe movies .... the matrix reloded is out on imax and i would give my left hand to watch the movie!!!!!!!.
One Thing is missing....
This is a very nice theater from the Screen, to the sound to the seating. The only thing missing is the
FILMS transferred into IMAX format. Where is Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Disney's Lion King.
For some reason the management Does Not think it would be benificial to show the 'longer' films. Am I the only that thinks they are wrong or?????
It's Great!. Austin needed this museum. Austin needed an IMAX. Great place to take out of town guests. The permanent exhibits can get to be a bit much for kids after a few visits. A lot of reading to really appreciate the exhibits. Overall, it's a great place. It's beautiful! informative, educational, fun, etc, etc.
Great. Everything is beautifully presented. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the movies are great... I don't recommend coming to see an IMAX movie in the morning on a weekday, though.. there are usually lots of school groups visitiing.
bad, bad, bad. the content is not that interesting, the display lights often block the placards so you cannot read descriptions without moving around a lot. it's just not that good. i think the institute of texan cultures in san antonio is better, even though the bullock museum does have more current/recent-event items
The best. I couldn't say enough nice things about it. I love museums but this has to be one of the best history museums...in any state!
