The Crossings - Top Notch

I have been to several spas in the Central Texas area and The Crossings has always been my favorite. There are some things that are imperfect about the place, like no paved sidewalks for example, but I have done some research myself after reading the other posts and decided to share what I found to be the truth. The last time I was there, I asked if the pool was saltwater or chlorine and they told me it did have chlorine. But I was also told by a manager that the pool has standards as far as chlorine levels go and they use the very minimum. I have noticed in other pools, you smell the chlorine even if you dont get in but I have never been bothered by that at The Crossings. I also think that people hear "eco friendly" and expect something totally different but I love the natural settings and green building principles, rainwater collection systems and mostly organic meals they serve. I also compared the prices and yes their prices are higher than what you would pay if you just went to a massage therapist in their home or studio but way cheaper than other top spas in the area. But while other places charge facility fees on top of the massage cost, just to have access (whether you use it or not) to their pool, jacuzzi, etc, The Crossings lets you use their nature trails, pool/jacuzzi (by the way the pool has an infinit edge and overlooks Lake Travis!), meditation sanctuary, AND even their actvity classes like yoga and fitness! Other places won't even let guests PAY for access to these because they want you to spend the night (which costs a fortune). They have way more facilities than anyone else in the area. They are locally owned and operated and I recently found out that they have the greenest ranking of any other resort/spa property in Texas. Hands down, the best place around to get great quality service in a natural setting where the staff is authentic and attentive - definitely be back soon! See you there!
- Pros: Close to Austin, yet feels far away, nature conscious, great value
- Cons: No Mani/Pedi

Over hyped, over priced and WAY under delivers. It is truly a shame when someone takes such a beautiful location and turns it into a racket. Trust me, you'll have a better experience staying at a Marriott and buying a spa package from a real spa. The other reviewers point out an experience similar to ours.
Rates = way to high for what you get. Food = The 3 meals we received were not even as good as most high school cafeterias. Bland, no true vegetarian or otherwise modern healthy food. Facility = only "state of the art" if you are talking about 1980's facilities. Small, bland architecture and not at all in harmony with the environment. Overall, things were in minor disrepair anywhere you looked. Trails/paths were not well maintained and a bit dangerous to walk on, especially in the dark. Staff was marginally friendly and helpful but were not doing a very good job. Example: Dishes from dinner were still on tables while breakfast was being served and the woman attending the pool actually started trying to run guests off hours before the pool closing time.
Oh, and I think everything is for sale... art, books, tapes.
I could go on and on... bottom line, absolutely wonderful location in the hills and bordering the nature preserve... but spend your hard earned money somewhere else.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Virtually everything else
